Tummy tuck appointment tomorrow

I agree that the criteria is all over the shop. NHS Grampian is BMI under 27, maintained weight for 12 months and major and constant health issues related to excess skin.

Its daft isn't it. I have spoken to both the assessment nurse, psych assessor and the consultant and they all agree that in NHS Highland you've nae chance!

Yep indeed will be awesome! Will have to do tummy tuck diary's too to compare x

Definately. I imagine I'm going to need something to help pass the time when I'm recovering. Mentioned it to hubbie though and taking some photos pre and post op and he was less keen on the idea. Have a few weeks to work on him though :D

I'm off to see my arthritis consultant next month he was amazed in the physical changes in me since he'd seen me just before surgery 2yrs before when I saw him last summer. I've lost even more since then & the orthotics consultant didn't recognise me at all in January when I went for new insoles. I'm hoping hell suggest as part of his care that I be put forward for plastic surgery as my whole bypass journey was thanks to him insisting my gp referred me as it was cheaper& more expedient long term than him replacing both my arthritic knees at the age of 45. Go saw sense & finally gave me the support they're lacked giving me for many years. As the consultant works at the local plastics specialist centre may be ill get lucky. I'm to afraid or just don't feel I deserve it still, that I'm reluctant to ask for it but as for the last year I've basically maintained at around 11st & can't shift the last half stone it's probably tied up in all my loose skin & some. My consultant is lovely & without him I wouldn't be where I am now he saw something worth fighting for & encouraged me & my go to go for it even if it was only his budget. If someone says you need this , you have earned it I think I'd say thank you but the self esteem whilst better still doesn't think I deserve anything more than I've had so far.after all I've been lucky once why should I deserve a less flabby slimmer figure, perhaps that excess skin, bingo wings etc. are what I deserve to live with to help me avoid returning to the old fat me?

Hun if you want the tuck just go for it! You do deserve it after you have worked so hard. Id ask your gp to see he/she can refer you to see a ps and see if they can help you further with your journey. I was stuck at 11st too for so long and then i managed to shift a few more pounds so now im on a waiting list for my tuck finally. Ive been told it should be done at end of July fingers crossed. I have been fighting for this for 5 years after my stomach was left a mess after 2 c sections. Im finally happy with my weight and no this will be such a huge change to my life :D Never give up hope on your dreams xxx

Thanks for that, I'll see what the consultant says & perhaps get the confidence to ask gp. As I say I'm not sure if I want it or would accept if offered if that makes sense having had my bypass on the NHS can I even consider asking for plastics on them to!
I'm not happy with the flabby spare tyre I'm left with & currently, plus undergoing cbt & counselling for depression triggered by my sons mental health problems but probably been depressed for many years just not admitted it until I couldn't cope anymore. Maybe plastics is a step to far at the moment & I need to resolve the various issues I have before I go there if its ever possible. I don't know what's best or if I could be brave enough to do it or be happy with or without it or if its all mixed up because of my mental health & that I feel I don't deserve this or the many things I've got, had or think I want. Am I just a dizzy dame or is this mental turmoil all part of our journey to the new us?

All you can do is ask hun. Worse they can say is no. I recon you have as good as chance as any hun. If you get to see ps it will at least give you some hope and something positive to look forward to :) I was major scared to ask and chickened out many of times as the fear of being rejected/laughed at etc but 5 years later im actually doing it and feel great knowing this will really help me physically and emotionally. I hope you get the results you want and so deserve xxx

Thanks sorry to sort of hijack your thread with my insecurities. I'm not quite 2yrs out so may be early days yet but as you say if you don't ask you don't know. I'll see what my consultant says if he thinks its worth a try & is perhaps willing to support me as with the weight loss surgery then I may yet pluck up the courage to do so. I may contact the Bournemouth team that did my op to see what they advise as we'll. start doing do realistic research & also see what my cbt counsellor says as well.

Sounds like a great idea hun :) Im sure you will get some great support on this forum too. Just take each day as it comes and when you feel ready go a grab it with both hands x
