Waiting for nhs wales to approve surgery

Hollyhunny

5 years of waiting
Hi, my name is Holly. I was referred by my GP in Oct 2007 for WLS. My BMI is 55
I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine to sleep. I have a family history of obesity, heart problems, high bp, and high cholesterol. I have borderline type II diabetes. humm what else.? ok, with all that and Im sure Ive left stuff out, ( yes,I have been on reductil, and xenical and slimming world) they have managed to refuse my request once, and it has been resent another 2 or 3 times without any word until now, they need more medical records and they will consider me again. My question is where do I find the pct surgery funding guidelines for wales and what do i do if they deny me again? :sigh:

Hi Holly. Im sorry, I dont know how the funding works in Wales, only that its harder to get funding there than it is here in England. Just wanted to say welcome and good luck xxx

Made a phone call to the welsh assembly to find out their decision. They discussed my case Tuesday, and have decided that since I am using a cpap machine at night, that my sleep apnea is under control, which means no surgery. although they said they would defer decision until I next see the sleep specialist.
heres a question... has anyone that has requested WLS from the nhs ever been a non national? meaning born somewhere outside the UK ,like me... Im an American...
