Hi everyone!

A little about myself -
I'm 20, 2 year old son. Got diagnosed with polycystic ovaries and started gaining weight FAST!
I'm now 22 stone. BMI of 42.5.
My family have history of diabetes and I weigh more than them so will get it earlier!
Tried every diet going but never works. Tried slim fast recently and instead of losing I went from 20 to 22 stone in a month!!!!
I've been referred and just seen a specialist at St George's hospital. She said that she approves but will have to ask my GP to ask PCT to find surgery.

Now whats next? Do I chase my GP and ask him to do a pre approval form and sent to PCT (I know this as I decided to call Croydon PCT and ask what needs to be done). Usual turn around is 2 weeks for the form to be accepted by them but how long for GP to do it and how long till Surgery?!

I need advice! Please help! Will I defo be approved for funding or not? I don't want to get my hopes up!

Grrrrrrr! I'm depressed and this is the best news I have had in years! Just dont want to get let down!!!

HELP! Any replies would be appreciated!!!

Hi Alex,
I can only speak about my own personal experience. I originally went to my doctor to request referal/funding for WLS. As she was satisfied that I met our PCT requirements, she sent in the request to the PCT, who then wrote to me to confirm they had approved my application and that I should "hear" from St Georges within a certain period of time (I think it was about 4-6 weeks).

This is how my journey started.

Sorry I cant help you any more.

Good luck with your journey.

Can only speak for my experience. City & East London. GP refered me to hospital they did all the funding request with GP, I never got involved. Appoint at hospital end if January funding Pproved in May. But my friend who has more comorbities than me is still waiting for her PCT to make a decision over a year & 1/2. Good luck.
