Will I get the opp

Good Afternoon,

I am 5'6, I have always struggled with my weight since 1998.

I am now 28 years old and in the last 2 years I have gained another 20kg.

It is now effecting my breathing, I do not have any illnesses in fact my blood pressure couldn't be better!

I visited my GP yesterday and asked for help, He weighed me and i now weigh 22st dead with a BMI of 48.

He said that he is going to send me to a specialist, and then asked me "would surgery be an option, I told him I would have gone privately if I could afford it.

he told me to wait to hear from him, does this mean he is sending me to a specialist to be considered for a band or sleeve?

it could be or he could be doing what many others are doing and sending you to specialist weight management courses first would depend on your area and what their procedures are but good luck for the outcome you want

I had to attend weight management for a while before I was referred for surgery but everywhere is different some places you don't need weight management. I started in August 2012 and was referred for surgery in January 2014 bypassed in February xx

I did go on a weight loss programme where i had to attend a group meeting every week for 12 weeks, this was last year. I am in the Berkshire area, I am really hoping for the opp.

LadyLeigh, welcome. In Berkshire, see if you can be referred to the Imperial Weight Loss Centre at St. Mary's, Paddington. It's a bit of a journey, but worth it.

I believe you'll stand a very good chance there.

I will wait to get my letter from my GP then i will return and ask to be referred to them, London is just up the road from here, but it would be worth it.

If you're close to Reading, Slough, etc, it's a very easy train ride straight in to Paddington Station and the hospital is right next door.

I am looking for the bypass if they will allow it, why would you not advise this? Xx

the success rate is awful with a band, its a really hard thing to live with, i went through 11 years of hell with mine, ( and so did a lot of people ive talked too) bad acid, stomach swelling up so i couldnt eat, acute pain in shoulder and down my arm, stomach pain , all this would put me in bed for days at a time not been able to move because of the pain, and they couldnt find anything wrong, weight loss very slow, loads more reasons, i just wish i got the bypass first ass soon as i got the band out 8 weeks ago ive not had any pain or anything x

Thank you for the info, I'm miserable as I am. Ideally with the amount I need to loose a bypass would be better for me X

hi vampalicious im also a bander going for a revision. I asked my gp to refer me, the latest is the bariatric team are having a meeting to discuss my case! Not sure what that entails but I wanted to ask what process did you go through no that the funding had changed? did you have to do weight management etc. any help would be appreciated thankyou

Had my first appointment and have been given the go ahead I've asked for the bypass which was told it's my choice have to attend 6 group appointments and go back in 8 months having lost 5% of my body weight then I can go for the opp. Wooohoooo
