Will we all need full body lifts/tummy tucks?

Just wandered if we will all need to be nipped and tucked or did anyone's skin go back enough not to need it?
if yours did or nearly did could you tell me your secret? Also what your start weight and bmi was and what it is now???

just really starting to worry about the excess skin! :(

hi amy, it all really depends on how long the skin has been stretched as when its on a long term basis the skin loses its elasticity and no amount of exercise will put it right, the tummy and arms are the worst places for this and pregnancy can make this problem worse, i had my t/tuck 2 years ago and they told me no amount of exercise and toning would corect it for me personally as i had been over weight to many years.

i would also be interested to hear from anyone that has had there skin go back with out plastics.

Well, I'm not even halfway with my weight loss and I'm already looking like a slowly deflating balloon!

My team told me, I would definitely be left with very large quantities of excess skin as I have an apron or overhang now.

I have bingo wings too and my inner thighs are plain horrid.

But on the upside, I will be healthier and more able.

I always knew there would be a trade off.

I was almost 24 stone when I started this journey and was overweight and obese for over 20 years.

these are my tum tuck pics the 1st was taken a few mins before i went down to theatre by the staff they do this as standard procedure, the others are approx 10 days after, i had a fluer de lys tuck thats why i have a vertical scar as well. i will get a new pic done of how my scars look now 2 years on.
as you can see on the b4 pic i had the standard hanging apron and the scar on the 1st pic below my tum button was from a previous op from when i couldnt concieve so they incorperated it in my new scar.
click on the thumbnails if your not squeemish ....

hi carole thats what my midrift is like now with the seperation due to more weight loss since the t/t and this is part of the revisional surgery i will be having, also my hips have been left uneven and im hoping they can do them at the same time.

Thanks for showing your pics Liz. Is a tummy tuck less dangerous than wls or the same do you know? x

i know i wont be getting any tummy tucks or skin removal so im learning to love my puckerd deflated look lol i started at over 25 stone and have had a c section so no amount of exercise will get rid of my tummy sag but nothing some tight knickers wont hold in i hope lol

i dont know which is more dangerous as there both major surgeries, but the t/t was 100 times more painfull for me than the 2 band ops.

that's amazing Liz...how long did it take you to recover from the T/T op?

I've been overweight for around 22 years now, so know it won't just go away. If I get all my weight off, I really want the left overs taken away :sigh:

Liz was good to see your photos the surgeon did a good job, your bod looks very neat in the after pics
How much did you lose and what was your start weight LIz

Jay xx

hi jay, before my op i was just over 20st, the day of my 1st band op i was 19st2, at t/t point i had gotton down to 12st 7 for the t/tuck. today i weigh 12st 12.

hi red, my recovery took alot longer than my banding op, i was fully mobile after approx 3-4 weeks but this was simply because a fluer de lys tuck is more complicated and more tissue is cut away and i had to attend for the wounds to be checked once a week for the 1st 6 weeks after discharge, i had to wear a body corsett for 3 months to support the muscles as they were very weak, this was also to help with the sweling as swelling can occur on and off for up to a year. 2 years on my skin is still totally numb along with my tummy button but i really dont mind that.

liz am i right in thinking you are quite tall. my arms and boobs are a real mess too. I am now 12 stone but still have a long way to go before seeing someone regarding plastics. but one day in the not too far distant future

my height is 5'6. wow 12 stone you have done fantastic carole well done you ! xxx

Its the anasthetic thats the dangerous bit in any operation, and compounded by the obesity risks of high BP, heart conditions etc etc, thats why the risks are higher, having excess skin wont kill you, having the operation wont kill you, but the anesthatist will - anasthetic isn't an exact science.
