hey is there anyone here either pre op or post that has pcos. just wanting your stories so far as to how they dealt with you in the beginning.
as when dietician referred me he said they would have to address pcos aswel or maybe first and im hoping this isnt going to delay things.
xxx

I was told the bypass would be the best action with pcos as it has the best results.

thanks wendy havent seen anyone yet but my dietician mentioned that they might want to try medication first. i just know this wont work as my weight is past the point of meds :(

I have PCOS but neither the consultant or dietician have mentioned it. The dietician I saw before my referral was great though. She wrote in her repot that I should be referred for surgery, as weight loss usually 'cures' PCOS.

It's frustrating as I eat a really healthy diet. No packet/processed foods, no oils or fats and everything cooked from scratch. It's just the portion size I eat, or used to eat which is the problem. That's why I opted for bypass.

hey paula im holding thumbs that they forget about it. lol. if they dont im just going to say at the moment i dont want to be on anyother meds cuz im already on a few. i just want my surgery and as u say that will cure the pcos, its only as iv got heavier that the pcos has got worse. but to be fair im not exactly healthy i go days without eating then i binge. but since got refered for wls i have started to eat properly.
have u got any kids or have u tried and failed due to the pcos? i hate it, now waiting to see gynae for suspected endo too and hope that doesnt affect the surgery xx

Hi there I also have pcos they tried me on metformin for a while but that didn't agree with me so i was put on the waiting list for surgery as i was told its the best thing for pcos as pcos can make you gain wait but also makes it very hard to lose it aswell I waited just over a yr and am having my op in 2wks .fingers crossed everything goes smoothly for you and you get the out come you want very soon xxx (I do think it depends alot on your doctors also)

aww im happy for you not long to wait. as for the metformin i have been asking my actual gp 4 these for a few months and he keeps refusing me as im not trying for a child so im just going to tell consultant that gp said no lol. glad to hear thats all they will possible try cuz thats what i thought. well i suppose its my choice really if i want meds or not and if i dont then surgery only option, i cant see them refusing me because i dont want more meds atm. or is this wishful thinking??

No I don't have any children ( unless you count my two cats lol) I tried metformin, but tbh it was pants and gave me a bad stomach. I've tried all the diet pills (legal and illegal) and though I initially lost weight it always crept back on. I've also tried all the diets and they don't work neither.

As long as you can evidence that you've tried everything and failed, they should really disregard your PCOS. Some pct's count it as a co morbidity too, so you may be lucky xx

I really don't no why I was put on metformin as im not trying for a baby either and i do not have diabetes which is wot its used for but I don't think there's any other form of medication to treat it as i was not offered any other form of medication for my pcos but I may be wrong!!!!!im also on meds for high blood pressure which helps your case for surgery even more hopefully they wont go down the medication road and just agree to surgery keeping my fingers crossed for you xxx

lol paula they defo classed as your kids hehe :) i have tried everything. plus when my dietician referred me they had to discuss it and was accepted for being put on wls referral. CONFUSED.COM lol will see what the consultant says when the appointment eventually comes through. i have high blood pressure but not on meds for it. the only other thing that can help with pcos is the pill which my doctor has clearly said hes not happy with putting mw on it as im over weight my blood pressures high and iv tried them in the past and they dont do anything. i have ibs aswel so not sure if i want to try metfomin as many have said that it messes there tummy up. and to be honest unless they have a miracle drug then its not going to help with how big i have got.
just want to have my first appt so i know where i stand and what to expect but u know how slow they are :( xx

the metformin helps to regulate your hormones and insulin I did use it for fertility reasons and had my 8 year old this worked better than the fertility drugs mr el hassini did tell me that bypass is the best action to take with best results. Good luck with your surgery and getting funding. Wendy

I had pcos, amongst other gynea problems. Losing weight did absolutly nothing to help, I was a healthy weight when I first started suffering. Apart from various hormones I wasnt prescribed any meds.

Good luck on your journey x

i was told wen i was 19 i didnt have pcos, even tho all the symptoms were there eg hair, bad periods, not conceiving, weight gain etc etc. then just before xmas last year i was diagnosed with it. so its always been there just the weight gain made it worse. so im guessing being a healthy weight will defo inprove it as my symptoms have defo got worse since i put on so much weight. but as well all know pcos never goes away its always there just the symptoms improve. well thats what i believe is right anyway. xx

Jessoliver,

I too have PCOS & I'm diabetic Type1 & I have IBS, so as my weight has gained my PCOS has got worse...electrolysis every couple of weeks as my face gets hairy! It's hideous & I hate it, but definitely believe that weight gain has caused it to worsen. I also take Metformin as well as 4 injections a day. The Metformin has done nothing for my PCOS. I have slow-release Metformin also known as Glucophage. Slow release takes the horrible pains away normal Metformin causes. You still get them to begin with but generally it gets easier. My Insulin so causes the PCOS so I'm in a no win situation so for me to have the gastric band means less insulin, probably no Metformin & bingo I'm hoping this will help to sort the PCOS out. I can't conceive sadly which is mainly why I'm having the band. I'm desperate to be a mum but with everything I need to loose the weight, drop the insulin & hoping this will then help to make my chances of conceiving better. I take meds for my iBS when it's bad called Colpermin which are peppermint based & yes the peppermint defo helps with the wind!! I do hope you manage to find your answer, I too would like to know. Keeping my fingers crossed for you & hope you find what your looking for in your weightless journey. Keep us updated x

hey babalon. pcos isnt a nice condition, like you said hard to concieve etc but im determined to keep thinking positive and maybe one day will be lucky enough to be a mum. as i hope u r too. but i would want to be a healthy mum so wls is the first thing im doing. i unfortunatly have bad news that i might have endometriosis aswel and if i have i have the slimmest chance of being a mum. but there is always adoption etc. like i have said before not keen on the met as not trying for baby atm, and as for the hair omg dont get me started im like a gorilla :(.
and i am 10 times more hairy now than i was wen i was 2 stone lighter.
i will hopefully have an answer in a couple of weeks as to what the plan will be. i cant wait as im tired of playing the guessing game.
i hope all works out for you xxx

In the surgery class, they said wait 12 months to get pregnant. I also read in my book they give u for the class that, the pregnancy would be high risk. I don't believe the book. I know people who had a successful pregnancy with the sleeve. It goes back 2 taking care of yourself and making sure your body and baby gets property nourishment .

Weight lost will decrease your changes of having miscarriages . Our Insulin resistance becomes stable , our blood pressure becomes normal, and our over all health is just better.
I'v had 2 miscarriages already. Just had two months ago. Three specialist told me the weight must come off. Im only 250. I was the smallest one in my classes. They could not believe, I was having weight lost surgery.

Im tried of the bad cycles every month. Im tried of being sick. I can't wait til June 26.

The key is having faith. I know that God can heal us from PCOS.

Sincerely
ZetaLady1920

hi z glad u found it. sorry to hear about ur miscarriages :( but once you lose the weight hopefully it will increase your chances.
dont believe what you see in books, i dont believe anything they tell me because no studying and learning can be sure of ones body. everyones different.
I cant wait to be a normal size so my confidence gets better and hopefully i will find mr right. and then plan lil ones. :)
xx

I hun, sorry to hear you may have endo too - I had that as well.

When I eventually got my hysterectomy, they discovered multiple cysts, fybroids and endo all over my abdominal cavity! It can take years to get the diagnosis right or even for them to do anything about it - who would be a women eh??!!

Just wanted to say to you all though that despite all my problems I have a 9 year old daughter, whilst pregnant I had to have surgery to remove a mahoosive ovarian cyst too. She was 100% meant to be here and if anything post pregnancy things got even worse. I suppose you just get used to all the horrid symptoms, then after 9 months without them you really notice them again xx

hey mazza. it lovely to hear a success story. :) i have appointment with gynae on 4th july so will be seeing if and when i will have a laporoscopy to see if this is what it is. something defo not right tho, mum has said for years she thinks it endo and only now have they decided to actually try find out. got to admit although my doc comes across as a arse, hes the one who found the pcos after so many years of me knowing anyway.
have decided if by 35 i havent conceived i will be having all my bits removed as no point suffering 4 nothing and then will try adopt. but im still young only 23 so theres still hope. :) possitive thinking. and once the wls is out the way i can look at a brighter future.
i hate being a women. and all men do is complain, id love to see them have 1 day of our lives eh :O
xx
