I had my surgery there in June 2015. Dr Hartland runs the pre and post op clinics. I had done a 2 year tier 3 program before being referred to tier 4 at Walsall. I was referred in Summer of 2014. First visit to hospital was January 2015. I had already lost and maintained the 10% weight loss on tier 3 - and has kept it off. Saw Surgeon, Dietician, Nurse and the Psychologist over 4-5 appointments. Approved for surgery. Attend the group sesssion. Pre op checks done and surgery was June 10th.

They were quite strict with me to have lost that 10% but that was achieved in tier 3. I live in Bham so was referred to Healthy weight which was a specialist tier 3 weight loss team. They kept me on their books for over 2 years until I had lost the 10% and maintained it for 6 months. It was a pig! As I said they finally referred me to the hospital in Summer 2014 and my op was June 2015. Not all patients do a tier 3 before reaching the hospital which is why some people are set goals by the hospital team - effectively they are doing tier 3 and tier 4 at hospital. They are understanding - we are looking to do a very drastic step of body mutilation after all so they just want to see if you will be able to live with the surgery and have the willpower post op as well. Sadly the op is a huge help but it won't stop you eating bad things entirely. I am sure you can do this - it's a really challenge I know. I was (am) - serial binge eater and it's a daily battle even now xxx good luck it's worth it.

I am sure you will manage this. It's amazing what we can achieve when we can see a lifeline - they are super busy at Walsall but I have found them to be supportive and helpful. Try not to worry to much about it all as I always found the more I got stressed the more I craved and needed bad food! Vicious cycle eh! Good luck with it all.
