Appeal to long-time losers - Food Demons

Brunetteandred

Officially a loser
I would love to hear the experiences of long-time losers as to whether they have experienced the familiar issues with food (the Food Demons) and if so, how have you dealt or are you dealing with it?

Hi Red

Not sure i count as a long term loser ;) lol is 7 months post op considered a long time ?

My pre op food demon was bread, i lived for the stuff, i could sit and eat half a loaf toasted in one sitting and still want more, post op i've found i couldn't tollerate bread any more, and its only recently that i've been able to manage half a slice on occassions ! thankfully i've lost the craving over the months for bread now, and can happily live without it.

I still have head hunger for certain foods, but rather than deny myself completely i'll have a little, and find once i have the craving goes away, this week was chinese, so yesterday i had chinese for dinner, now i've had it i wont crave it for a long time ! dont get the wrong idea as i dont eat junk all the time, though i've found i can sustain weight lose and still indulge every now and then in the foods i enjoy, and thakfully i've not yet dumped.

Great question Red, I wish I could help but actually Im in the same boat!Silversurfer that is the best thing I have heard EVER! I am 5 days post bypass and my head is wanting it all! Haven't been tempted to try anything I shouldn't yet-still on liquids only but my head is trying to fight me-as usual!

Hi Red,
I'm just over 9 and a half months post op. I have dumped, mainly on sugary foods. My first experience was a low fat yoghurt with hidden sugar content. I have craved chocolate, but can only have a piece or two now without dumping. Even then most of it tastes powdery compared to what it did pre op. Believe me, dumping and the powdery texture has put me off eating chocolate more than once in a while. I now opt for a Highlights hot chocolate or a couple of buttons when my mind hunger gets the better of me.
I don't dump with many fatty foods, except battered foods, like onion rings. I can even eat crisps and a chinese takeaway, although a normal portion is far too big for me now!
I was told that wholemeal/brown bread is better on the pouch than white, but I've found the opposite. When I eat brown bread it feels like it's got stuck half way down, whereas white bead is lighter. Having said that, toast is much easier to eat. Sometimes pasta, rice and solid quorn (I'm a vegetarian) make me feel clogged up as well. Having a healthy sauce with it does help, but there is a limit to how much of these things I can eat.
I hope this helps.

great thread Red, but cant Rep you.
