Banding or bypass - did anyone have open procedure?

If so, how was it for you?

I am due to have open procedure bypass and am a bit anxious, but me being me, likes to gen up on all high and low points before anything! They say forwarned is forarmed. I don't do ignorance is bliss very well at all! lol!

I had keyhole but there is someone on here had it open just recently and I cannot remember who it was, I am sure they will be along soon though...xx

I have had previous abdominal surgery (para-umbilical hernia repair) and it is too risky to do it via keyhole.

isnt it funny hpw different surgeons take different views i had had my gall bladder removed with extensive adhesion removal and have a 12 inch scar because of it. I was worried that it would interfere and my surgeon said that too dat and 1000s of bypasses later hes not had to revert from key hole to open.

I think it may be because I have a barrier of surgical mesh or something in my abdominal cavity making it impenetrable or difficult via keyhole. But I'm no surgeon!

Was it Alia that had open surgery recently?

I had the open RNY in September. Had no probs or pain but the clips stayed in longer than the week as there was some opening in places. My surgeon only does open &, weirder still, he sometimes cuts across, rather than down!
