Bypass post oppers

candie

fabby not flabby :)
How many times have you properly dumped?I've dumped twice in 6 months due to hidden sugar in stuff, and hated it:(Just curious to see about the rest of you;):D

never, but equally never had anything that should of caused dumping.
someone once bought be an orange juice whilst out and within a couple of mouthfulls i had a weired sensation when i asked if this was pure OJ they said yep brivic 55. i didnt drink any more as i know its not pure OJ and thats the closest iv ever come.
The thought really scares me which is enough to make me overly cautiouse.

Sorry i'm pre op but just wanted to ask, is dumping forever or is it just in the first few years? sorry to hyjack your post xx

I have dumped alot as i still eat too fast. But only really badly twice after eating Honey and the second occasion was from Cranberry juice....

Only dumped once in hospital - they gave me a drink called forty sips and can I tell you it was awful - I felt deathly for 40 mins. I never want that to happen again so I too am very careful about what I eat and drink!!!!!!

urm 3 times in 6 weeks! once from a cereal bar , once from a smothie and once from a malteaser on xmas day! i do try and read the labels but the smothie was because id forgot to eat and the cereal bar sumet quick and the malteaser well.. i just wanted it lol! it is horrid thou and each of mine lasts about 1 hour.. i dont think i can handle sugar at all 2 be honest! but id like to know also if its forever or just the first couple of years? x

i havent dumped yetand am 4 months out, but I havent really pushed any boundaries. I have eaten chocolate etc but in v small quantities. I guess just the fear of dumping is enough to stop me going too far.

I have felt tired on a couple of occasions after eating carb heavy meals, but then I used to feel tired after every single meal when pre op. Dont know if this is mild dumping, but I have not experienced any of the other horrid side effects of dumping like sweats, cramps, vomiting etc...

Eating to fast shouldn't make you dump Mark !

I can and do eat and drink anything and have never dumped, i push my pouch every meal to full restiction and i dont think there is any food i've not tried yet.

not yet thankfully xx

hi i properly dumped on tom soup was in a rush and never gave it a thought, I was sweating dizzy and had upset stomouch. Needless to say havent had it since or ever will again. Stupid but never gave it a thought

the nurse at hopoe hospital said its possible with a band too but i thought it was just bypass ?

im over a month post op and i dont know if ive dumped or not to be honest, i have been sick after eatin but that cause i didnt chew proper so it was quite lumpy when i was in the soft food stage (still am till thursday) but i have eaten veg sausage, had american mustard, tried a couple of chips but only 2 and they were oven 1s, tried toast with cheese spread, i find chicken goes down really well with carribean sauce.

i ate a packet of quavers today as i was in town with my dad and we went to a coffee shop and he ate a sandwich and i was starvin as i left home with out eating and i felt fine after them, i know i should not have eaten them and i wont do again but i chose them cause they go soft and moist.

Thanks for all your replies x:)

I don't think I have dumped. I did stupidly forget I had a bypass last night and had two custard cremes. The only reaction I had was a racing heartbeat but that was about it. That was bad enough and I am not tempting fate again.

A year on and not properly dumped i can usually tell after a few mouthfuls if something is not right for me and i stop, i have pulled it close to the wire a few times but never for a full blown dunp. i eat sugary things, things with cream in, some things that are deep fried ect but in very small amounts, nothing is wrong with the Bypass, as long as you listen to your body it will tell you what i can or cannot take. Just remember everyones different

The worst I've had is an overwhelming feeling of sickness and exhaustion but that's usually if I try to eat when I'm not really hungry and the best cure is to go to sleep.
It's never after sugary food so don't think it's dumping as such. Just a strange reaction to food especially early in the day - can't do breakfast!

I haven't really eaten anything that could cause me to dump, that said last week I had some hot smoked mackeral fillet for my tea (with cheesy mash and 1tbsp baked beans) and after three mouthfuls I just HAD to get to the loo..waves of nausea, diarrohea, feeling hot and cold, light headedness...was that dumping?? It lasted about 5-10mins I suppose. I have had that sensation in the past (pre op) when I've had an upset tummy so I'm not sure if something just disagreed with me or if it was dumping...

Cuppa xx

I have dumped properly once (after a chocolate biscuit) but I have had waves of nausea or palpitations on numerous occassions. It's not a pleasant thing, but I am so pleased I have that, otherwise I would be constantly cheating, especially this past few weeks with christmas etc.

Rx

I can eat almost anything although I dont have sugar in drinks , cereal ect, but after having a home made snowball at christmas (a dash of lime & advacat) I felt a weird sensation right to my toes after 1 sip:eek: so I chucked it lol after reading the lime contents and even though it was only a tiny dash I didnt realise its made from syrup thick me! But if I have a baked potatoe (small 1) I can sleep for england within an hour of eating it. I think I have read somewhere that the sleeping after eating some taboo things like carbs ect is most defo a form of dumping. Gail x
