bypass vs sleeve!

yes i have the name of the surgeon....BUT....it says please bring with you the enclosed questionnaires which will be used 2 assess your suitibility??? and evidence of weight loss course if attended already (which i am over half way through).
i have written on the bit thats asks WHY....to improve my lifestyle and prevent any medical problems and to be alive for my children and to feel able to apply for jobs that requires a uniform!!!!
how does that sound as a reason??

Your GP should have done that for you, mine did everything with a complete history of my diets, pills, various medical conditions and exercise regimes. We had to put up a good case for it. It maybe that your PCT lets the surgeon decide, unless they have sent you the question and answer sheet that the specialist nurse filled in when I went, it maybe that one. Has your GP already done his bit?

Your reasons are good enough, if there is anything else you can add everything is an advantage. Just don't sound like you are a loony or an emotional wreck, that's what others have told me in the past.

They asked me about Sleep apnoea as I was referred to consultant cos I couldn't sleep, but the reason for that was because I was peeing for England at night. The consultant wanted me to take a test, and If I had failed it I would not be able to drive. So I chickened out of the test and never went back. Sorry to digress. That's what I told the Surgeon and he was happy.

I never had sleeve as an option, I only got offered band or bypass. I worked with someone who paid for a band privately and in 2 years of having it she'd not nothing and in fact had put on weight. This was entirely her fault, she found a way of cheating her band, seems pointless but I can see how it can happen. I didn't want this which is why I chose the bypass. Less chance of me being able to cheat it, although I like to think that this time around I've got my head sorted out but you can never be 100% sure when you've used food as a crutch your entire life!!

As for form filling and funding, I didn't have to worry about any of that! My doctor completed all necessary forms with regards to my referral including the reasons why i wanted the surgery and all options explored before reaching the decision to apply for surgery. After they were submitted to the hospital i received an appointment to meet with the surgeon and discuss my options. It was then the surgeon who wrote to my PCT requesting funding for my op and they then wrote back to him (sending a copy to me) saying that they had approved it. I'm just playing the waiting list game now :)

Each hospital and PCT seems to do things differently though. I've heard that some people don't even get seen by the surgeon for an initial appointment until their funding is in place, some have had to get their funding through their GP after seeing their surgeon, and others who as in my case, received their funding on recommendation from the surgeon.

no the gp didnt do this bit so that must be why i need to fill it in and take it with me......as for the reason i could go on forever but there is just not enough room on this sheet lmfaooooo!!!

Yea I know what you mean the reasons become an endless list. I found that the initial interview with the specialist nurse and Surgeon was like seeing a shrink a bit as it seemed they were trying to suss me out to see where I was at. Well I passed that bit anyway LOL!! I reckon that must be the same form but they want you to do it first. From that they will make their decision.

i guess they have to check you are mentally stable in order to be able to do these types of ops.....feel sorry for anyone who fails that bit especially since the weight is probably the issue that causes it...ie depression etc. its such a shame

Sorry I haven't responded life is alitle busy these days. I am new to this website too so I don't understand the stone talk. :) I had my surgery dec 13th I have lost 115lbs as of today with the sleeve. But I will say my dr. Took out my galbladder too. I love my sleeve. Just remember whatever one you choose they aren't doing surgery on you brain so some of the emotional issues will take a few monthsto overcome. Good luck

thanks for replying and well done on your loss.
im not sure if i have any emotional issues...but if i do im sure they will be about to rear their ugly head/s lol
