sorry to ask but was any of you fitted with a catheter before op ?plus was you awake or was it done when you asleep.i no iv ask this before but i think iv put it in wrong place so this is why redun it--if that makes sence. chris:eek:

All done when you're asleep mate, yes, you will have one fitted.

Only trouble is, they take it out whilst your awake!! But a nurse playing with your willy won't affect you. You will be too far out of it wo worry about a little thing like that!

I think they put catheters in as a matter of course. Mine was put in whilst I was under the anaesthetic and thank goodness that I had it. They pump quite a lot of fluids into you and you won't be in any fit state to be walking to the bathroom.

Yup, fitted while asleep, taken out the day after surgery.

I had my op last week at Spire Southampton and was told that they don't catheterise as routine because it can reduce mobility (an increased risk factor for DVT). However after trying to juggle a hand full of IV's and a cardboard wee bottle at one in the morning it may have been the better option :)

I didn't have a catheter with my op.

Yes I had one. It was put in while I was asleep and then removed as soon as I was drinking free fluids later that day.

I didn't have one before put under and nothing in when I came round in the recovery room. If there was one I didn't know about it. I wasn't going to the loo that often either as the only liquid I had for the 1st 24 hours was by IV.

hi they put mine in when i was under aneasthetic and took it out either 1 or 2 days later :D

Help! Some stranger has pinched John's name and put a different person in his place....

"Bring back Glenville you slim person or there will be trouble", Julie says in what she hopes is a menacing tone.............

I had one put in once I was asleep and it was taken out the next morning. It wasnt noticeable most of the time but I kept feeling like I needed to pee and when they checked it had just backed up a little bit. I felt as though it was about to fall out but when they removed it the nurse said that there was a little 'balloon' that they had to deflate first so really it was in no danger of coming out. I only got the feeling that I needed to pee a couple of times and it was truly lovely to not have to worry about getting up and down to the toilet and by the time it was taken out I was with it enough to appreciate the walk to the toilet.
It really isnt that bad, I think that people panic about them way more than they need to.

P.S...it didnt hurt when she removed it, wasnt even uncomfy, was just a quick "ooh" moment.
