 i think im suffering with this yesterday i ate salad knowing the lettuce goes down easy i ate loads of it as needed the vitamin boost but today done some frechfries and poached egg and done way to much didnt get thru quarter of them but still had one or two to many and now suffering lol do any of you still prepare to much even tho you know you want get thru it?

Simple answer yes....

I am still getting used to cooking for one and a half....instead of four and a half...:D

I find it really hard to judge sometimes on quantity but I use the same dishes for my meals, and only ever have what I can fit on those. One is a bowl for breakfast or soups etc and one is a 7inch side plate.

Maybe you could try this too..it does help me control the actual amount I eat, even if I have cooked too much.

i do use a bowl for most things dependingon what im real funny about things touching on the plate and mixing together lol just noticed your ticker i was banded a few weeks befor you and at about the same bmi now nice to know it going as it should roughly if that makes sense

Another way I thought could help is imagine a normal sized portion but only serve half...take a while to eat it as we are supposed too...and then see how hungry we are afterwards...

I know I am struggling a bit but it's on 20 days till my friend Fill comes over...;)

I think you are both doing brilliantly you are very good examples as to what it is like after banding for those of us still waiting, i have found your threads very interetsing and informative,
Thanks orchid xx

This is somethign that i think i will have to get used to, i tend give myself 2 portions so i think half is the way forward lol.

I guess this is something i'm going to have to get used to too. I'm sure you'll figure it out soon enough and when you do......can you pass on the tips to me please lol xx

I am not a bander but I too think I can manage more than I actually can. Last night I served myself salad & chilli. I was able to eat most of the salad but only about half the chilli. I had to decide which one I wanted more of & I went with the chilli since I needed the protein. I find that what I think I can eat and what I do eat are different lately. I think there is a strong learning curve when it comes to portion size, especially when what you are eating contains starch (beans in my chilli, your fries) because of the expansion after you eat that food.

Just wanted you to known you aren't alone!

thanks hun i didnt know those kinds of foods expand makes alot of sense now

Yep what PH said makes lot of sense, doesn't matter weather your bander or bypasser, the idea is to fill the pouch with solid food and that way it stays full for longer, fill it with mush or really well chewed food and it will simply fall through the restriction making you feel hungry again a short time later.
So in PH's case the chili was the right thing to go for, no only for the protein but becuase it binds together in the pouch and thus stays in there longer ! you will also find that you eat less and ultimately this is what you want :D

As a bander though, you have to chew the food really well or you might end up with a blockage....and believe me, I am going to be avoiding that.

after throwing up again tonight i second that big time lol i ate something t quick not chewing as i should and hey presto!

Remember the mantra...

Chew, chew, chew and more chew, this is what a bander has to do....

;)

I had a moment the other day, the first one and it was with a banana.

Yes chew - but over chew and it will take more food to fill your pouch, plus it wont stay in there for long, then an hour after your meal when your feeling hungry again your more likely to snack !
Theres a fine balance between over chewing turning food to slush and under chewing, and only you can work that out, but i've experiemented and found that chewing slightly less means i get full quicker than if i chew more, and i stay full for a lot longer !

I wont to make sure that i steer well clear of any discomfort so i will do everything i can to eat right.

your find as you have your fills that your have the occasional learning curve this way as you will be able to eat something have a fill then it will be really uncomfortable when you have it again but once it happens you know to leave it alone and eat bread now while you can enjoy it lol i miss bread:(

I am going for bypass
xx

No that feeling of discomfort is your friend, it reminds you that you have restriction and cannot eat more, i've read so much from other sites about people failing with band or bypass because they dont like the uncomfortable feeling they get being full, and go out of there way to avoid it, therefore they dont eat enough and end up snacking between meals thus regaining weight longer term.
I make sure i get the uncomfortable feeling that way i know i will be full for at least 3 hours !
The real trick is to know and understand exactly how much is enough and how much is to much, i've learn't that when i'm full and can feel it, i'll then top it of with one extra mouthfull, this gives me a slight uncomfortable feeling, which passes within ten minutes or so ! doing it this way i can only manage my 3 meals a day, and have absolutely no desire to snack or eat anything else between meals.
And before you say 'thats rubbish' it works, i've lost 8.4 stone in just over 5 months :D

Thats amazing hun, well done
xx
