Feeling unwell

Sorry about the amount of posts from me of late but after some advise.

So since I started my slim fast pre op diet last Monday I've felt pretty rubbish. Anyway today it took it to a new level. I've been sick, diarrhoea (had this a few times), my heart is racing all the time, my head pounds and I feel dizzy. Now I don't know if I'm unwell or this is a side effect of the diet.

Any insight welcome? X

Well it could be either, sounds a bit like withdrawal as well from some of your normal diet. No harm in seeing your gp though and get checked out x

Hello
im a way off from doing the LSD but have read on here posts from those having gone through it and most seem to say the first 4/5 days are tough on you then people seem to turn it around
they talk about been
dizzy
having the trots
headaches
just feeling a bit pants !
I will have to think about what to do when my turn comes
good luck

Sorry to hear you're feeling so rubbish Sophia. Are you on any medication for say, diabetes? I only ask as I was taking daily liraglutide injections in the months leading up to my pre op diet and halfway through I fainted etc and went to A&E and was referred back to my team who told me to *eat* something, yes, that's right... So I had a chicken salad and felt immediately better then it happened again a couple of days later and again I was told to eat something so I had a chicken sandwich and again felt immediately better. My team then said they wanted me to switch to 1000 calorie pre op food diet but I refused because like you've previously said you don't trust yourself and I was exactly the same, so determined and didn't want a licence to eat!

Anyway, turns out because I was on the diet I no longer needed the daily injections and they were causing havoc with my insulin and blood sugars and that was what had made me feel so terrible. I was advised to come off the injections straight away and then I was fine and haven't had to go back on them since.

I would suggest calling your bariatric team ASAP because it sounds like you're really suffering and the further I got into the diet the more I was able to distinguish between the initial shock of it and eeek something is not right here at all... I spoke to my team's dieticians to begin with and they liaised with nurse specialist and doctors for me and were very supportive.

Hope you feel better soon.
Stacey

Hey Stacey,

No I'm not on any meds apart from vitamins. Oh no :-( at least they knew quickly what it was.

I have woken up today and realised my dizziness isn't normal light headed it's vertigo (suffered from this once before when I had a few infections) starting to think I have an infection. I often get them when I'm run down so think it's probably related to lack of energy due to lack of food. Got a docs appt tonight

Well done for Gp appoint always best to get these things sorted asap.

I have just started my milk diet today, just trying to ride the waves of hunger that have just started...horrible

Hope you feel better soon, please keep us posted

You can do it Hun :) just try to stay busy.

I have my appt @ 5. Just been sent home from work which is frustrating could do with out this but never mind x

So just an update... I have a sinus infection and an inner ear infection which is causing the vertigo. Docs say it's because I'm run down from having a bad reaction to the slim fast so I need to swap to the LCD food.

So glad you got it sorted, thinking of you switching to the lo cal food diet - you can do it! Your commitment to the slimfast and perseverance so far has been impressive! Not long now!

Thank you Stacey, nothing can be as hard as the slim fast with everything I had to put up with it. I will be ok, only 3 weeks to go. X

Just wondering how you're feeling now you're off the slim fast. I've been on it for the last 5 days and yesterday and today I've felt really nauseous.

Has the change of diet helped?

I feel amazing! Everyone has noticed the difference. My friends say how healthier I look as I started to get very pale and malnourished on the slim fast due to the amount I was getting down and keeping down. Are you managing your 5 a day?

Glad you are starting to feel better :)

That's really good to hear!!! Glad you're feeling a lot better!

I was only allowed three a day so it was tough. Definitely started to feel run down! Don't know how people do it for an extended period.

Got my op tomorrow so moved onto only having clear liquids and it was actually nice to eat something that wasn't so sweet (which is weird considering I have a really big sweet tooth!)
