Fruit trifle

ooh I love trifle. Hope someone comes up with a recipe for you Teen. Suppose you can do it with sugar free jelly and low fat custard but not sure if the low fat custard sets like normal stuff...?

Mmmm chocolate trifle.
Sugar free mousse,
sugar free orange jelly,
sugar free tinned mandarin segments,
sugar free home-made sponge,
sugar free tinned custard,
cream,
sugar free grated white and mild chocolate sprinkled over,
oh - perhaps some strawberries on top.

Hi Teen

I have done one for a party we had as i didn't want to be left out but you are right about the low fat custard not setting. I didn't use sponge either just raspberries in the sugar free jelly made with a bit less water, then I mixed Total Yoghurt with splenda and low fat custard to reduce the sugar levels and popped that on top followed by weight watchers vanilla yoghurt for the 'cream part' it was lovely. If you don't dump on weightwatcher cakes then some of their sponges would pop in the bottom, not sure about sherry as I'm not drinking but if you can take it then pour that on.

Not a real trifle but it hit the spot for me and several bad people who weren't wls and ate it when my back was turned.

Mmm I love triffel but never eat it, Only at Christmas when I make 1 or 2, but I will defo be making a low fat one this year and I know I will really enjoy it!
Ooooh can't wait now:p

More a way of reducing the fat rather than the sugar but my aunt used to make her trifles without cream - just with a layer of custard with a few almonds sprinkled over the top. (Apparently this is the traditional way of making a trifle but I just thought she was a bit wierd)

Trifle sponges have more calories per 100g than swiss roll etc but they are much lighter per sponge so you get a much less calorific base I think (They are also much lower in sugar than ordinary cakes and even with a layer of (low sugar) jam they will be a bit less naughty)

I used to really hate trifle when I was a kid but I started to like it when I was grown up - unfortunately :(

Why don't you make custard with splenda granules and then it will set
