Gastric band was a waste of my money!!!

Hi everyone sorry for my late replys, yeah they give me a fill on the day aswell so 6ml in my band now, it was really tight at first but starting to loosen now so when I go see my dietician on wednesday im going to book a fill. The nurse seemed confused when I said there was nothink wrong with it so will have to see if there is any more fluid missing when i see her. Thanks for your support everyone I really appreciate it. hope all is well with all your bands too!! XX

Hey everyone, havent been on here for ages just didnt know what to say really, was hoping to come back with good news and weight loss but no, no weightloss or good news for me. Still leaks in my band yet my providers dont care. Ive only a few weeks left of surgical cover now so no chance of me getting it fixed :( Absolutely devastated, dont know what to do or day just want to scream or cry or something lol :(

But if you reported fault within the period of cover, it shouldn't matter that the cover runs out now. They should fix it because the fault did happen when you were covered. Try to push them, and maybe go and see a solicitor.

Legally you should have a copy of the contract between you and your provider, they are obliged to give you a copy as a matter of fact principal ( I did and I was Nhs so privately they should have done too). Have you been back to see how much of the 6ml they put in is left in there??? I agree with the other poster, if you raised a problem with the band/port within the 6 months of cover then they have to find out what the problem is and rectify it, the fact they are dragging their feet is not your fault as you bought this problem to their attention within the 6 month period. Plz dont let them fob you off, get on the fone and demand( in a nice but firm way) that you want this matter looked into and rectified asap, see what their response is and take it from there. Wishing you all the best BD xx

Get in touch with them dont let them fob you off hun xxx

So sorry to hear of all your troubles. Half the time, at least, the worst stress of WLS complications seems to result not from the surgery itself, nor the type of procedure chosen, but from the insensitive, even callous way so many patients are treated afterwards.

Patients first decide to have surgery - no easy thing to do - and then fret for months before the Big Day. They should not have the added threat of possible post-op neglect. But they do, because the quality of follow-up care varies to a scandalous degree. You're not asking for the moon and stars, you're asking for good basic patient-centred aftercare (for which you have already paid, up-front). Surely there are certain standards laid down by law, and some kind of regulator or ombudsman to whom patients can complain? These neglectful providers need to be hauled over the coals and reminded that their first duty is to patients, and not to their bank balances.

Thanks everyone, I phoned my nurse today and she was really annoyed I hadnt been contacted since last wednesday, she assured me I would be called back today. Surprise surprise no call back. Im with the hospital group. I am going to go mad tomorrow when I phone because Ive had enough now. I should have 8ml all in all but only got 6ml in. Each time some was missing but they did a fill anyway. So frustrating I just hope all this gets sorted out :( XX

If you google 'THG complaints' you will find lots of interesting first-case histories, many of which include details of lawsuits in progress.

Yesterday I came across several posts advising patients in your situation to contact the Care Quality Commission AND Trading Standards. I understand that, since you reported your complications long before your 'time' ran out, you should still be fully covered. A couple of 'phone calls should help you to establish your legal rights, and make it easier for you to decide where to go from here. All the very best x

If there is a problem with your band you are covered under the sale of good act surely! It's not fit for purpose! See a solicitor, there are people who specialise in medical matters. Good luck x

THG are getting a lot of slating at the moment on this forum. Can I just add my two penneth and say that there are other providers who get complaints too. Personally however my experience of THG has been great over the past year and a half, and I had medical problems following an op recently (that could have happened as a result of ANY surgery) and I was reopperated on and have been having nurse follow up appointment every 7-10 days over the past two months! They do not want me to go WITHOUT the follow up appointments even though I personally feel great and fully recovered now! Now in my opinion that is fantastic aftercare

I work in a business where I have been dealing with complaint handling for a year and my greatest learning has been that a thorough investigation should be done before arriving at a solution/commenting on the basis of one side of a story...which is what's happening on this forum frequently at the moment. Poor service is not acceptable, but often BDs firm rather than demanding approach can work more effectively than the back against a wall "legal action" approach. Private providers are businesses and they will want to maintain/build a good brand/reputation and I am sorry you are having to resort to legal action to get your issues resolved :( I do really feel for you banders who are having problems and just hope you get sorted ASAP. Please try to remain positive in the meantime as stressing will not help in the slightest x

Just so you kno flutterby I am not taking legal action and never said I was although I probably should to be honest! My experience has been appauling. There is also no other side to the story but that theyve treated me terribly. Thanks for your comment and Im glad you've been lucky enough to have had a good experience with them.

apologies for my misunderstanding
