Gimme fish!

Brunetteandred

Officially a loser
OK. I am on fluid stage but am craving fish like nobody's biz (nope, am not with child!).

Am going onto sloppies in a fortnight, so can any of you lovelies suggest any fishy delights that may be suitable for then?

Every dietician/surgeon must work to diff rules, cos my dietician said i could start sloppies such as weetabix, puree veg etc on day 2
im on the liquid/smooth puree stage for about 4 weeks, then move onto the soft and mushy/crispy foods when i feel ready.

But i see you cant have smooth puree til after 4 weeks?

I love fish and ate it loads before WLS i had some Taramaslata today so yummy and for next weekend when I move to soft food I have some fish pie frozen waiting for me....I bought a waitrose fish and mashed spud pie and mixed it up and froze it into little portions ohhh cant wait...tuna mayo is nice to but a bit boring sometimes...what about salmon mousse?

MMmm fish. Now I'm craving fish at the moment too, but I am with child!

Sloppy fish -

fish in sauce (parsley, not butter!)
fish pie (either home made or microwave, if microwave look at the nutritional values of the supermarket value ones, the are generally the same as the weight watchers one, but 1/4 the price)
home made fish pate on water crackers (blend fish with very low fat cream cheese and lemon juice, good with smoked mackeral and other strong fish)
Plaice/sole poached in seasoned milk, and mushed up with a little of the poaching liquor (go for soft flakey white fish)
Scrambled egg with smoked salmon

I adore tuna with low fat grated cheese, a bit of mayo, and loads of salt. Not very soft though.

Hows about some pureed home made fish pie or maybe some cod roe... thats lovely and soft so should go down without too much trouble.

Am feeling tip top TBH! Lots of mobility, energy in decent bursts but am now starting to long for something more than fluid in my mouth. My chewy vitamin is currently the highlight of my culinary day! lol!

The fish thang has come on me in the past two days. Not helped by the family doing the fish 'n' chip thang last night.

Like Teen has mentioned in another thread, it's the first time I got teary eyed over food.

So, a faggot, mash 'n' gravy may not be my first sloppy! I'm going to do something fishy! Tuna or salmon is looking fave just now!

Thanks for the suggestion of fish soup, but I couldn't stomach them pre-op so dread trying now. Mousse or something in mayo or sauce sounds as sexy as hell though!

Will deffo check out Nic's fish suggestions. Thanks all. You are the bestest! xx

im a band but i had a similar fish craving so i bought the fish spreads, salmon spread in the tiny glass jars was my favourite, either eat a little on its own own put it in mashed potatoes. the crab paste is my ultimate fav, i dont know if its suitable for bypassers but im sure someone on here would know.

lol red i also now have a loving for fish that i never had before. one of my favs post op puree was weight watchers fish pie i used to puree the whole thing and then devide it and it lasted me 3 meals.

red are you allowed yoghurts yet ? a tip i got from another which i found helpfull when i needed the chewing sensation was to freeze the youghurts of your choice in kids ice lolly moulds then you have a texture to chew but it melts back to its original form once swallowed, just an idea for ya

the fish/crab pastes are the best idea right now, you could slip a spoonful into your mouth and just taste it, will satisfy the craving for fish without doing any damage

Hi Red, I enjoyed tinned Roe & curry sauce or gravy and srambled egg with ready to eat honey roast salmon sprinkled in. I know you don't start sloppies for a couple of weeks, but listen to your body, you may feel like you need to start eating proper food soon. If you do, just take it easy with things that you know will go down. Such as Scambled egg, covered in brown sauce, mash with gravy and tinned roe mashed into some sort of sauce. Always have plenty of sauce so its nice and moist and not too dry. Your pouch will tell you if it does'nt like it. Good luck with your cravings chucks. x

That all sounds like nectar, Allie. I think you may be right about staring sooner, it's just where health is concerned I am usually a big play it by the book person and I really do put my recovery thus far down to that. I feel amazingly well aside from this blummin' fish craving! Maybe my body is saying 'fed me protein!!' lol!

Hiya, I am four weeks post op and I have been having Covent Garden smoked haddock chowder from Tesco since the first week with no problems.
I have blitzed it with a hand blender and it does me two meals and it's very fishy and ,I think , delicious.
I was craving fish too and this has satisfied me.
Good luck.

Wendy. X
