hiya ok met with my doctor yesterday and she told me that she had already reffard me to the obisity clinic and she reffared me yesterday to the sleeping apnea, so i guess time waiting game now as i dont have any idea how long this will takes.:newbie:

hi and welcome,

from what i've learnt on here it all depends on the area you live in , my journey seems to have taken forever, i was referred by my doctor in Feb 09, and didnt see my consultant for the first time until April 10 and next next appointments not till December - so it can take a while. you just have to stay positive and research as much as you can

thats what i keep telling myself anyway

Hi there,

Welcome! I am sure you'll find this forum a great help to you over the long road ahead! Everyone is lovely and there is loads of helpful advice to be found.
A good place to start is the BOSPA site - (google it, or I am sure there is probably a link on here somewhere).
What happens next really depends on where you live and what your PCT surgery funding criteria is.
You will need to see the obesity consultant, the dietician, have the sleep apnea study...I had to see an exercise specialist...you may also need to see a psychologist...and you may need to see all this lot any number of times! Some people need to attend a weight management clinic for 6 months, a year or more as well as everything else. Once you have convinced your obesity consultant that you understand all that is involved, they will apply to your PCT for funding for the op....if it gets agreed you then get referred to the hospital who performs the surgery...and you go through the whole thing again!
It's frustrating and as you can imagine, can take quite a long time, although some areas do seem to move more quickly than others.
I think this process is designed to make sure people go into it with a clear itea of the risks, and how to make it work to the best advantage for you.
Anyway, keep us informed on how you get on xxx

hi

how are you?

just recived the appointment for the sleep test, mmmm wha a mi supposed to pls, they asking to go and collect oxcygen thing and returne next day for result any advice plz. anyone

When I had my sleep test all I had to do was pick up a little machine from the hospital, it straps to your chest, its not very large. You have a little clip thats goes on your finger too. You just sleep with it on and it records all details for the Docs to look at. I just returned it to the hospital the day after. Easy peasy and pain free! Hope this helps. X

Hi jj's mama, if its Papworth you are going to then it is an oxygen moniter that clips to your finger. You have it on over night then take it back the next day. I had an appt the next day with the consultant and he gave me the results then, but my husband had the oxygen machine 4 weeks ago and saw the consultant on Wednesday. It is fine nothing to worry about it is quite straight forward. If you are discovered to have sleep apneoa then you will need to go into Papworth for one night and they will sort you out with a cpap machine. It is usually done within 6 weeks of diagnosis.

thank you everyone for all the information you have been giving to me, ok the latest news from me, my doc called me yesterday and told me i wasnt successful for going to the mmmmm the obisity clinic but not to lose hope as i fit the NICE gude line, and need blood test asap which am having done this tuesday morrning fasting blood test, may i ask what that for plz, and regarding the oxygen moniter once is connected to me when can i use it is it when i go to sleep and discconeted in the morning? any info would be helpful, and many thanks again, i hope i get the funding as my doc said if they refuse we can appeal,

If its the sleep test monitor you just wear it when you go to bed, take it off in the morning. The fasting blood test is probably testing your sugar levels for Diabetes, not sure if they do it for anything else. Hope this helps, keep trying! x

thank you i hope one day i be slim, as am in cambridge it would be harder, but hay ho i just have to keep trying, perhaps one day i be lucky like sharron, so when i connect the sleep moniter i just go to sleep, do i have to do anything else?

Like Jacqui says you just clip to your finger and sleep then take it off in the morning. The fasting blood test will be to see if you have diabetes. Good luck with everything, sorry to hear you didn't get to the obesity clinic. I am so pleased your dr is willing to fight this for you.

thanks you

Hi its not bad at all. It just clips onto your finger, if you have ever had your sats measured in hospital it is just like that. I managed to sleep ok with it on. Good luck.
