my other half is leaving the hospital while im in threater and want to sort of how long he will need to get back xx

Its a how long is a peice of string question im afraid i thought id be under 3 hours ended up being nearly 7 hours best to get one of the nurses to keep him informed as when to come back this is what they did with my husband x

I agree with Hannah. It all depends how straight forward the surgery is, how long it takes them to anaesthetise you, how long you spend in recovery.... you get the picture.

Also if you tell your loved ones you will be a certain time, and then you end up being longer for any reason, your loved ones start worrying that something has gone wrong.

The nurses will be more than willing to give your hubby a call when you are back on the ward. Good luck for tomorrow hun x

I went down at 1.30pm and came back up to the ward at 7.40pm! My poor partner had been waiting in the ward on his own all that time xxx

I was having my anethetic (SP) at 8:40 a.m. and didn't get to the ward until 6.30 p.m.

As Sam said, it depends on any complications and how you are in recovery.

I wnet 'under' at 6,30pm and was back on the ward by 8.20pm

My hubby was given a number to ring to find out..I was at the L&D too:)

Best of luck for tomorrow x

I went down at 2pm but was in anathetics for over an hour, actual surgery only took 2 3/4 hours but was in recovery from 6pm til after 10pm

Thank you so much for sharing this info... my hubby asked me last night how long I wanted him around for next Thursday and I said I didn't know ! He was going to book an osteopath appointment for mid-day but I said I don't know what time the op will be yet so please don't book anything that might mean you're not there when I need you...! He tries so hard to get it right, but so misses the mark sometimes (bless!)

the actual surgery its self isnt that long the majority of the time away more is usually spent in recovery before been returned to the ward.

Really does differ from person to person. I was in, out and in my bed in ICU in 3 hours but they warned me that I could spend up to 7 hours in recovery (they won't know until they bring you round). I was all comfy and sitting up by the time my boyfriend came back. The hospital should give your man a number that he can call and check up on though.

Mine was quite quick. I was advised that it should be 2 to 3 hours but I was back on the ward in under 2 hours. Mine was straight forward though without any complications. It does vary from person to person and surgeon to surgeon and also if you are keyhole or open too.
My husband waited for me but I wasn't really with it for another couple of hours as the morphine just knocked me out.

Hope I am not hi jacking this thread, but I am not due to be at the hospital til 11am. So obviously wont be going down til the afternoon.

The hospital is 2 hours away through bad traffic, do you think it would be best if hubbie went home and came back the next day, or will I be all emotional.

I have been told that they dont expect me to go to the high dependency unit.

We now need to save as much money/petrol as possible:rolleyes::rolleyes:

it up to u hun i no when i came round i wanted to c my other despratley but i was so out of it but if u think u will be ok without him then send him home xx

Me too, I was really glad to see my OH after surgery and I was a groggy mess but I was so relieved to know he was there.

Awh sounds like my OH. He is so lovely and tries really hard but it usually goes wrong, comically! But because I know his intentions are so good I can't hold it against him.
He's my cutie!

My hubby says he is not leaving the hospital. I told him he could go check in at the hotel whilst I was in theatre but he says no. I was told that it is usually 1.5-2 hours but can be longer and then there is the time spent in recovery. I will then be going to HDU.
