Hi All

i am new to the site, i have been browsing on and off for a few days picking up hints about the different proceedures.

i finally plucked up the courage to ask my doctor for a referal into the WLS system and i feel so alone now. i am 5ft 11" and weigh 26.6 stone :(

is it normal to feel so alone and down or is it just me?

i have not had any appointments or anything as i only asked for the referal on tuesday, but has any one from my area been through it?
i have read the information about my PCT and it doesnt give any specific time frames.

my main worry is i will start to develop further complications, i allready suffer horrendously with chest infections and breathing problems, i am more worried about further complications...:sigh:

i am looking for support and i hope i have found the right place :)

thanks Katy

Hi Katy. :welcome:

As you live in Bolton, I think you will be going through Salford Royal Hospital for your surgery when you eventually get there. There are quite a few of us who have or are going through Salford so there will be a few to share with you their experience. I have to say that the general agreement seems to be that the team at the hospital is a fantastic one.

The average waiting time from first consultation to surgery seems to be 6 months. It may be longer depending on how soon you've got your funding in place. For me, it will be a little over 7 months from 1st consultation at the hospital. However, don't get put off by the timescales because as we all know, time will pass anyway.

Best wishes on your quest for WLS.

Hello and welcome to the nut-house :D

You're definitely not alone in the way you are feeling. We all chose WLS for different reasons. Some of the reasons are for what you are feeling right now!!

Don't worry about it, hopefully it won't be too long before you're feeling right at home here :D

HI and welcome to Mini's.

I'm not from your area so can't help with timescales or what to expect, but just wanted to say Hello.

You've come to the right place and will get all the support you need here.

hi katy as a fellow boltonian hiya and welcome. what area of bolton are you from? Im from moses gate and there are a few others from the area.
where your refered to all depends on yr GP. I wasnt refered for WLS from my GP but for weight management which recommended WLS where as my friend also from bolton went to her GP asking for a bypass. Her GP applied for funding and she went to the nuffield at leeds for her surgery. she hasnt had the same support or advice as me and i know which i would prefere based on out 2 experiances. If you fance meeting up for a coffee give me a shout.
good luck with your journey

I am just around the corner, farnworth, near Dixon Green Labour club/Plodder Lane area.

I did ask for WLS as i have tried many things including dieticians and so on, non of that really helped as my life style now is different to that of growing up, when the weight piled on :(.

I hope it goes thru quickly!

Yeah meeting up for a drink sounds good, im busy over the next few weeks, with starting a new job, interviews for college and things but as soon as it all settles down tehn a drink sounds good to me, i wont be soooooooooooooooooooooooo alone :)

thank you for your advice

Katy x

Welcome hun:D

Lots of lovely ladies in your area Katy so you need never be alone again and you are lucky in that sense, also the site is great and we will all always listen and help where can. We are all at different stages which is good as you get an overall picture, and there are some ladies and gents who are well on and can give great help and advice.
I am awaiting surgery in Luton. My process started July last year when I first asked GP. She applied for the funding eventually in Feb this year and I got the okay for funding in April and got an appt the next week for end of April
I am having my second appt. 18th August, so it is not a quick process but is well worth waiting for.
Welcome and good luck
