What a great guy he is.

Just wanted to share this with you guys.

I told you he was wonderful, but what has made you declare your love for him?

haven't met him yet but i've heard he's top class x

You'll be in good hands with Mr Khan. He is such a top bloke. I've been so indecisive and he's been a great help; he lets me text him on his mobile phone and calls me or texts me back.

Just really top man .... you are soooo lucky to have him on the NHS.

x

Just that he lets me text him and will reply to my texts or he'll give me a call. I think it's really nice of him. As a well paid and top surgeon he doesn't seem stuck up his own cahoonas. He says I can call or text him any time if I have any questions and I really appreciate that. He also refers to himself as Amir rather than Dr. Khan or Mr. Khan. As someone who works primarily around people with PhD's (I'm the only one in my team that doesn't have one) - who also get to call themselves 'Dr' they are so up themselves and go around calling themselves "Dr." and insisting upon it. It is sooo refreshing to be around [top] medical professionals who are so endearing and so unsnobby and who could actually save your life if the **** were to hit the fan as opposed to give you a run down of their thesis. lol

Not to knock the man who is probably gonna cut me open!

But by any chance are you considering employing him to be your surgeon?

Just a thought.....

Watch it CC I'm mortally wounded now - dissing people with Phds indeed its my only claim to very marginal fame after years of hard work and I'm a very nice person indeed. I don't use my title at all at work in case some eejit thinks I'm going to be able to whip out a stethiscope and sort their illnesses out ...actually on second thoughts I probably could, Many of them only need take 2 paracetamol and see me next week if its not better.

However I'm glad Mr Khan is so helpful it will give you a lot of reassurance.

Are you suggesting he's only being helpful because I'm considering going private with him?

The thought had crossed my mind too. Don't worry.

Ive never really thought about it, but I guess they must be, although presumably they get paid for the consultations as well.

So I was just wondering whether Mr. Khan was being overly helpful because he wanted my custom (although he works on behalf of Surgicare) rather than because he genuinely cared a hoot.

Honestly, I think its six of one and half a dozen of another. Obviously there is a financial incentive for Mr Khan to do your op, however he is a really lovely guy and he has certainly gone the extra mile to help you with no promises on your part yet that you are going to go ahead with surgery. Who knows, if you pushed hard enough, and were prepared to wait he may end up doing your op on the NHS and then he isn't going to profit from you (other than getting paid his salary - which he would get whether it was you or someone else he operated on)

if you trust the guy and feel confident with his work, then don't worry about the money thing...trust your instinct x

I really don't know where to start to push. :(

:hug99:push your GP hun. You are entitled to ask for a referral to the weight management clinic at WM. You can tell your GP that you know for a fact it is possible as you have seen others here get referred. If your GP says no, then see another doctor at the practice. If they still say no then complain to the practice manager.

It is not for your GP to decide whether you can have bariatric surgery on the NHS. Unless they have bloomin good reason to refuse your request (for example if WLS wasnt suitable due to other medical conditions that you have) then they should act on your wishes.

Once you get that magic referral to WM, then you know there are hoops to jump through. I think Sarah posted recently that she has to do 6 months weight management first before being accepted for surgery. For whatever reason, walsall have decided that they have a limited pot of money to spend on WLS. They have to ensure they spend that pot wisely. Get on the weight management programme and show them you are deserving of their money.

very good advice from sam there :) x

I think surgeons do care. But well to be honest i think you have his number and he is so helpful because he is on payment by results. The more operations the more money. Whereas with WM and his NHS patients he is salaried....

I for one don't have his number but then i don't have the money to go privately. If i did Mr Khan would be close to the top if not at the top of my surgical team xx
