Online Sleep Apnoea Tests????? Blow Me!

I think surgeons do care. But well to be honest i think you have his number and he is so helpful because he is on payment by results. The more operations the more money. Whereas with WM and his NHS patients he is salaried....

I have to say that the fact that Mr Khan has given CC his mobile number just shows that it is not all about the money with him, and that he is willing to go the extra mile to ensure that his private patients can make an informed decision. I do not know of any other single surgeon who would give his number to a potential patient.

when i had my op i was really poorly after and nearly died.. anyway the hospital let my mum stay with me for a few days and then i sent her home (she hadnt slept a wink in the chair) and dr jain and claire his understudy gave my mum their mobile numbers in case she couldnt get through on the other number or needed any questions answering! claire also came in on her day off to make sure i was ok as my temp was 41.6 and mr jain rang me on the sunday on that phone above the bed thing to see if i was drinking and to make sure i knew exactly what he had told me when he saw me the night b4 as i looked out of it he said! i was a nhs patient so i think they do care about what happens and not just the cash although of corse with any job thats a factor :) x

Oh i agree Sam it is good that he wants to be able to help Chaching make an informed decision but my point was would he be so keen to do it for an NHS patient? How many of the NHS patients that he operated on actually saw him? Let alone spend time talking to him pre op or after? Not many from what i heard...

Personally i think all the money WM make from us patients having surgery from outside of their pct they should put some more money in their own pct wls pot so that Chaching and Sarah can get the surgeries they so rightly need and deserve...

and of course, i definitelty agree with that julie lol. very sweet of you to say so. It does make you wonder what happens to all that money though?

i went privately and when i left the hosptial i got a detailed brakedown of what the hospital, surgeon and anethetist got.

im lucky to be able to go private and im sure however we get our surgery, there is good service and bad service. some surgeons go that extra mile and that makes the difference.:)

Hi Sallie,

Thanks for that informative post. It certainly sounds like they do get paid per op ...

Mr. Khan really doesn't come across as callous though. Mr. Sigursson didn't offer me his number. If anything what I found odd was that he was taking private calls on his mobile during my consultation with him.

I guess if one goes privately, the fact that the surgeon is willing to give me his private number - (it wasn't offered to me at the consultation btw - I acquired it afterwards) seperates the private from the NHS. I'm not meaning to sound snobby when I say this. All I'm saying is; I personally would like there to be some difference in the level (not standard) of service.

Surgicare refuse to operate on me now until I've had another consultation with Mr. Khan - which is quite conscientious of them really.

In anycase ... phatmomma - you are bang on re: my PCT.

Here you go CC

Privately an individual consultant (in any speciality) gets paid a fee for a first consultation, follow up consultations, operation (includes in patient care) post op consultations. If you book via a provider then they will have negotiated a scale of fees in advance with the consultants they contract with. If you approach the consultant direct you pay his set fee or a fee your insurer has agreed e.g. BUPA and often if using private medical insurance you need some sort of authorisation from them before making the consultation. Hospitals charge by the day usually for in patient stays and often have 'all in' packages they offer for set procedures. If they have contracted with a provider its usually all in your fee but beware the need to check if it says 3 nights inpatient stay what happens if you need to stay longer, some packages allow that at no fee but others you are liable for those charges. Take home meds are often charged outside of the package too. In addition you will be personally billed for telephone calls and newspapers and additional services (eg getting your hair done!!) by the hospital regardless of whether you are on a package or not, check your in patient letter carefully it should state that on it. Oh and costs, even set costs, vary dependent on where you go, London and Teaching hopitals are often higher fees. This is especially important for usual ops done under medical insurance but for example if I had my bypass in London it would have been £5,000 more than in Chichester with Mr Somers

Mine of useless info due to job

Me not working CC perish the thought. I'm the business partner in a GP surgery hence the problem with using my Dr title at work ..too many people might want me to say get undressed and let me have a look at you. I'm off at the mo on days off after 18 days straight working.

Oh and everyone feel free to call me M, its Marilyn but everyone calls me M as I can't be arsed to type in Marilyn and never ever looked anything like a Marilyn

Aaaahhhhh! Sounds like interesting work.

What does the CCP stand for?

Ah well the M in CCPM doesn't stand for Marilyn. Some years ago we changed our computer system at work and the engineer was horrified at my insecure password, so he insisted it be changed and everything I came up with was po pooed so I asked one of my partners what he could suggest that I would remember. He suggested something related to me so I said FatPM, he thought that was too nonPC so we'd better make it CCPM, circumferentially challenged practice manager which apparently is PC. Oh and for any potential burglare/computer hackers it has numbers and symbols attached to it as a password. Never know who reads this......as if

As wonderful as Mr Khan is and this is my last post on the subject until/if ever i meet the man in person... I am sure he didnt give you the same phone number his wife and family ring on, it was probably the spare phone so many people seem to keep nowadays for either work or personal reasons..

And there is nothing wrong with that, i used to have two phones one for people i liked/loved and one for my ex husband....

Anyway Chaching, are you any closer to deciding what type of surgery you might like to pursue?

I gathered that he hasn't given me his personal number / home number. Contrary to any perceived belief - I am not stupid.

My point is/was, that I thought it generous and kind of him to take time to contact me and answer my questions even before I cancelled my operation (which was supposed to be this Saturday 27th Feb). Alas you seem rather cynical and have poo-poo'd and dismissed things I've written ever since I started the thread. Which is a shame really - I try to think that people are genuinely kind - you evidently don't.

I'm genuinely sorry if you think i've 'poo pood' your opinions. I was just pointing out he has a 'investment' in answering your questions. At no point have i thought you were stupid...

I am a bit cynical when it comes to people and kindness (maybe life has made me that way).

I am completely the same. We are very similar ... lol. Friends again? :)

I undertook an online Sleep Apnoea (is that how you spell it?) test last night. This was the result I got back:

Dear Cah-ching [sic] ,
Thank you for completing the 'osaonline' questionnaire.
The questionnaire that you completed has now been evaluated and has shown that you have a high risk of having some form of Sleep Disordered Breathing. This means that, on the basis of the questions you have answered, there were numerous indications that you may have a sleep disorder. Please note that this evaluation is not comprehensive and is not a diagnosis of Sleep Disordered Breathing.
We can offer a more comprehensive screening and diagnostic service if you should so wish or alternatively would recommend that you seek further medical advice from your General Practitioner with regards to your symp toms. Please note that if your GP refers you to a sleep centre there may be a significant waiting list for these services. In addition, we recommend that you visit our website: www.osaonline.com for general information on Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.
If you should require any further information or wish to proceed with a more detailed screening please contact our Sleep Support Team.

I answered the questions honestly. Given my answers to the questions I fidgured they'd say I didn't have it. So imagine my utter shock when I read the aforementioned.

Are there any other online SA tests I could take? The result of the one above has spooked me somewhat.
