Was meant to be going to Charing Cross on friday for my first appt but just had a call to say that its been cancelled!

They can't arrange another appt for me til the end of next week... bummer!! :sigh:

oh gosh, how annoying.

Thank god they only keeping you waiting another week. I'd still be annoyed though.

Thanks Sam... I've already been having a debate with myself if this is the right route that I should be taking so was hoping to go on friday & be newly motivated...

I'm guessing everyone one questions their reasoning for wls when it starts becoming a reality!

Have you heard from CC & how she's doing? xx

Its natural to question if you are doing the right thing, particularly if you are managing to diet before surgery. Are you having doubts about anything in particular?

I saw CC a couple of weeks ago. She was sore, but over the worst and managing to eat and drink fairly well. I'll let her know you were asking after her. x

Thanks for asking Sam.. I guess questioning if I need to do it as I'm managing to lose weight at the moment (but I'm great at losing weight its the maintaining the loss I'm pants at!).

Its weighing everything up... I'm eating very well, socialising, playing with my 2 kids, my skin is shrinking in line with my weightloss... of course its not as fast as I would like but is it ever??

I just wonder about putting myself thru a fairly major op, the recovery time & having to rely on hubby, being out of action for a time with my kids, not being able to socialise quite like I can now & also the loose skin thing!!

But I've been low carbing & am now struggling to stay with that as some of my old demons are coming back, I know this would be the same even after wls so is there really a point to it??

I don't know.. I'm just spinning myself around in circles right now. xx

I had the sleeve and felt really good after a couple of days even to the point of I forgot about the op, drove to the local B&Q and bought 5 large growbags. Luckily my daughter stopped me from lifting them but as my wife works long shifts I was able to do hoovering and cooking within a week
I had done quite well pre op but it is one of the best things I have ever done.
Keep up the good work and go for it, it is really worth it

Honestly, if I thought it would have been possible for me to lose the weight without surgery, then I would have gone for the dieting option every time. Surgery must absolutely be the last resort. I would never have had a bypass if I thought I could do it alone.

The old demons do come back, but after surgery you have a tool to stop the demons getting out of hand.

If I were in your shoes right now, I would start the WLS process as it will be many months before you get to the point of surgery, and if you manage to do it on your own before then, there will someone only too willing to move up the list and take your place.

Also, (please take this in the manner it is intended hun) you have done absolutely brilliantly to lose 49lb, but you still need to lose twice as much as that and maintain it to be a healthy weight. Do you really think you can do that on your own?

Bless you Sam... it did make me chuckle that you thought I might be offended by yr comment. :thankyou:

Firstly yr quite right I do think I should continue this journey as when I started I felt I had no other way but this way to lose my weight but I did get diagnosed with diabetes which gave my a real kick up the backside!

Yr right tho I still have a whopping amount to lose & that is what still concerns me, I know I'm getting twitchy now & losing my motivation & that the help of a sleeve or bypass is a major bonus to helping stay on track!

Thank you so very much for you help... I'm guessing until you've come out the otherside (for alot of people) you never really know if your doing the right thing or not!

I remember seeing you post on Mini's with yr old username & reading about you when you started out with yr journey & you where the person who got me into looking at this side of things... so its very apt that you are the one again making me think this thru.... I really appreciate it. Thanks Sam. xxx

Hi ditzeeblonde,

how very annoying! I understand your frustration.

I was at Charing Cross hospital last Friday for the same meeting, and there was no surgeon present. Dr LeRoux normally leads the surgery bit of the presentation I'm told, but he had to go abroad short notice the night before. Perhaps that's why they're cancelling now? I'm only guessing of course.

Anyway as a way of an update on the actual meeting.. Karen (clinical nurse) lead most of the presentation, as well as a Dr who's name I've forgotten who explained the medication and lifestyle programme that is available for patients. After the presentation, a psychiatrist 'lead' the group discussion. I say 'lead'.. she didn't do anything really. We just talked amongst ourselves ;) There were LOTS of people, most of them wanting a band. There were several post op people (bypass) who shared their experiences, all of them very good. They were all in great spirits which was very nice to see. Although it is good to remind ourselves that things don't ALWAYS go perfectly smoothly.
The meeting did nothing for me in terms of influencing my decision (or my wishes shall we say), as I am relatively well prepared and know what I want and why I need it. But for a lot of people who attended this meeting it may have been very useful to be able to ask questions to former patients.

I hope you get a new appointment really soon. I agree with what others have said. You're doing REALLY well (!) and your weight loss so far is fantastic. I have come to the conclusion (or maybe I console myself this way) that the extremely long wait to finally have this surgery is intentional, so people can think about it long and hard and gain as much information as possible, in order to make an informed decision.

I had my op at CX in Feb, I can honestly say that the team are fab, I still keep thinking I will get a bill as the whole experience was so good I keep thinking they muddled me up with their private patients lol. Hope you don't have to wait too long.
