Hello everyone,
First of all i woul dlike to wish you all a very Merry christmas and very Happy New year in advance.

I would like to ask people who had their band/bypass/sleeve/wrap done privately out of UK.....How are you all? Have you had any problems yet or have it been a smooth ride? how many time shave you been to the country where you had your surgery to get fill for band or for post-op checkups?

I was thinking of going private but a bit scared to go our of UK for surgery as i was thinking of post of complecations.

Obesity is ruining my married life :( i'm so desperate. :(

Hi

I am having my band in Belgium on 14th Feb, but all consultations and fills etc are carried out in this country and a location near(ish) me, the company I am using having consultations up and down the country.

I considered going abroad but then decided it was worth the extra peace of mind to stay in the UK. Really pleased I did - just for my own and my familys sake. Hubby not keen on me going abroad. xx

good luck for your surgery. can you please tell me which country are you going to and the name of the company.

Hi there
I chose Spire for my band and had it fitted in the UK. I have been very happy so far and have only needed one fill up to now.
Good luck with your choice whatever you decide

Thanks for replying ladies. i'm just so sad and desperate at the moment. My married life is in a huge mess.

Im sorry to hear that Farzu
Remember that the weight loss surgery wont sort your life out and you will need lots of support when you have it done. Also remember at this time of year our emotions are all over the place. Things may look very different in the new year when you are back in a routinue
Hope you can improve things in your life very soon

Farzu, i remember you saying the same thing last year! You are letting your family have way too much of a part in your life..... As someone else said wls will not make your marriage or family life happy. Neither is it a guarantee that you will get pregnant and give your husband the child his family long for! You need to start loving yourself a little bit more hun x

I hope things get better for you in 2011 xx

I wouldn't go abroad. If there are complications post surgery, the NHS is not under any obligation to "fix" what i wrong unless it is a life or death situation.

And as far as your married life goes, the surgery and weight loss only fix your weight and sometimes make relationships worse in the long haul as you and your confidence change. I would invest in some therapy before you go down the surgery route.

Hello there.

I had the Gastric Sleeve surgery with Cosmetic Bliss in Belgium in September of this year and i have to say so far (touch wood) things have been pretty smooth for me.

Now, i am not going to come on here and say "you must go abroad it is so much cheaper than the uk" etc etc. You must do what is right for you. When i read about people being scared of going abroad for surgery, i do sympathies and see where you are coming from, but i had been trying to go through the NHS for around 18 months and was getting no-where, getting increasingly low and feeling like my life was over at 22!! I had reached a point where i would have done ANYTHING to get the surgery and going abroad to get it was in my definition of anything. I am the type of person that doesnt like to go to the shops on my own for fear of being abused and so travelling to Stanstead from Devon, watching my family leave (with cosmetic Bliss you have to travel alone), getting on the flight alone (which i have never done before), then going through with the whole thing was a HUGE learning experience for me. I learnt that i am made of stronger stuff than i give myself credit for anyway.

For me, it was the right descion, i have lost nearly 5 stone and am increasinly getting more and more confident.

Bear in mind though, this op is about YOU, not your husband or anyone else. I did this for ME, because I want a better quality of life.

Good luck hun and just start to think about yourself. xxxxxxx

yes i said the same thing last year as that was for pregnancy but ny husband was quite understanding that time but now its all different. In 365 days i think i bleed almost 300 days and thats the problem now. This is causing problems between us. i'm seeing Gyne but they also said its all because of the weight. :(

I had my bypass done through the Weight Loss Surgery Group at a hospital in Kent by a great surgeon, it cost £9500.00. I was in a private hospital for 3 days in my own room with 24-7 care. There were no problems and the op went smoothly. I've had no medical problems since and am very happy with the results.

Best of luck with whatever you decide to do x

I had my bypass done privately in Spire Manchester, i had travelled down from Glasgow and just felt that was far enough for me to go. As Emma-Louise says she has had a positive experience going abroad as i'm sure many other people have had in lots of other surgeries. It really is a matter of personal choice. Farzu as others have said hun wls won't change any difficulties you are having in your marriage, yes it will make you healthier and yes you may get pregnant (if thats what you want) but what it won't do is be the magic wand that you hope will fix things. I speak from experience hun, as others to will testify on here, I hated myself, my GP "blamed" everything on my weight and I thought if I lose weight i'll sort everything. However once I took a step back and really thought about it I had to know I was putting myself through this major op for the right reasons. Yes my family's opinions were listened to but ulimately this was about ME! Hun if you want this for YOU, go for it, if you want it to fix your problems then please hun take a step back and love yourself and decide what YOU want then go for it. Big HUGS for better times for you xxxx

Hon, I am only an inch taller than you and I weight almost 2 stone more than you and I didn't have the menstruation problems you are having. There is no way that your weight is simply causing that and loosing weight will not always correct gynae problems.

I have lost all of my excess weight and still wouldn't be able to get pregnant naturally and would have to rely on IVF. It seems you are viewing the WLS are the miracle cure for everything. And honestly if your docs are telling you that your weight is the only cause, then you need to find new docs.

I have been to fertility specialist for almost 3 years then they discharged me without any treatments as i am too heavy. they have done all the tests and said i have Poly cystic overy (PCO) and i have to loose weight. i have seen the Gyne and had all the test done and they also said the main problem is my weight. What should i do now? people are blaming me for everything now a days. I have been bleeding abnormally since i started having TOTM, but then i was also overweight. i have been very thin till the age of 10 and then started to gain weight. the same thing is happening to my brother at the moment. he just turned 10 and starting to gain weight. In my family my parents have normal weight and other relatives also normal. can't figure out what should i do.

Well my father in law is a fertility specialist and he has told me millions of times that fertility problems are never down to just weight otherwise how do the extremely super morbidly obese have children.

PCOS also doesn't always clear up with weight loss. I have a normalish BMI and I still have PCOS. Have you asked for a second opinion about your fertility problems? Most NHS doctors who do fertility do not do it as their only specialty and therefore aren't always the best.

Have you thought about looking privately for a fertility consult? Mine cost be only £100 and gave me more information than years of battle with the NHS.

No i haven't looked at that and never really thought about that to be honest. thanks for the idea. i will definately take 2nd openion now. Every Dr i saw told me its all about weight. I saw people double my size had babies. My diabetes is totally out of control too. please pray for me.

Many prayers. I know how bad the struggle feels when you just want to be a mother. Just be warned though that the weight battle is nothing like the infertility battle and parenting. Battling infertility is very rough on relationships and parenting is very hard work. But I would do it all again to have my gorgeous daughters.

Make sure your marriage is bulletproof before embarking on pregnancy and parenting. Otherwise, you could find yourself as a single parent and that can be a very rough road to go down.
