Protein supplements

Hi All,

doing a bit of research, and I wondered if you would mind sharing with me...

1) Do you use any protein shakes? If so, what do you pay for them?

2) Do you take any other supplements, and again what do you pay for them if you dont get them on prescription?

3) Have you suffered hair loss - and if so, did you take any supplements? Did they work? What do you pay for them?

Would really appreciate any replies, and as well as helping me - it may help others who are paying over the odds for their products at the minute.

Thank you :)

I don't use protein powder, but I do add Marvel to everything!
I get calcichew, solvazinc and vits on prescription, I have no hair loss but it is early days yet. x

Thanks both. Gary, have I read that right, just 1p more for 30 extra tablets!?

I don't take any protein supplements but it is something I am considering.
I take solvazinc, forceval, iron and calcichew ( All on prescription) plus I also take extra B12 and folic acid.
I am 12 weeks post op and my hair is shedding, I have quite long hair anyway and I did lose some hair pre op but I have noticed I am losing more than normal. I am trying to get in the 60g of protein a day but some days are easier than others.

However on the whole my hair still feels quite thick and does not feel any "thinner".

I am going to monitor the situation and maybe in the New Year I might consider some protein supplements, a friend of mine who is into "whole" foods takes a hemp protein supplement and tells me it is the best but one of the more expensive ones, she gets hers from Holland and Barrats.

Get the Forceval on prescription, its the most complete,Calcichew on script too.Nothing will help hairloss its just a process we all go through and it does rectify itself.Happens at about 4 months and lasts about 3/4 months.

Hi Sam

I did have a great deal of hair loss from 6 weeks to 8 months out its all back now and I continue to take the selenium as it makes my hair so shiny!! Not sure if it did much for the hair loss I tend to think that comes and goes whenever whatever you do.

I use protein shakes, 1 a day ususally but more if my ability to get food in goes down, still almost every day as my protein 'banker'. I use various and pay £29.95 for them for 77 servings.

Take Forceval on script, buy Calcium citrate (£13.95 for 3 months worth), Selenium with zinc (£3.56 per month), probiotics (£6.90 for a month) and have always taken Benefibre but can't remember how long a jar lasts or the cost.

I tend to go with the advice from the american wls people as my surgeon's idea of follow up is abysmal despite me being on his case and his dietetics team for advice are non-existent. I like the fact that the USA has so much more wls for longer, so more personal long term experiences to draw on and more specialist health care professionals doing research into wls and its effects.
