question for post op bypass peeps

finding my way again !
Has your body decided when you have lost enough or have you ?

Ooh I can't wait to hear the answers, as I keep having dreams that my bodies gonna stop itself when am still obese and I wake up all panicky,

Great question hunnie xx

My body certainly has decided to slow waaaaaaay down. From my own experience and that of other bypasses I know personally, the period where the weight just drops off you lasts approximately 6 months. I'm still losing slowly but certainly have to work a bit harder now for a loss.
I was 27 stone and I am nearly 11 months out now. Today I weigh 19 st 4 lbs.

I slowed right down after 6 months but went on to loose another 4 stone. The thing to be aware of is that you may also experience the 'boredom' factor at around that point for want of a better word. Like when dieting you come to a point when you get tired if it, things slip, you make bad choices. Its the same with the bypass, old habits can creep in and compound the already slowing losses. This is the time to regroup, get back to basics and follow the pouch rules .......... often easier said than done. I just stopped loosing very much at a certain point and I took that as a sign that I was done. That time I was at target and was ready to relax a little. Before when it slowed and I was above my target weight I continued to try and shake things up etc and slowly but surely things started again.

So I suppose what I am saying is listen to your body, assess whether you are on track foodwise and weightwise and then if you are and are happy start to conciously start the maintenance trail. Those few people that overshoot are usually losing rapidly whatever they do and often have to eat a high fat, high calorie diet to try to stabilise their weight I know that Shel does that. This is where you need to be in touch with your team to get their help and advice,

Hooe that helps and that your journey to wls is progressing well

Am not a post opper nnbut the consultant who did the talk at support group last week described it really well using a visual tool.

If you draw a horizontal line across a page near the bottom and then draw a diagonal linw from the top left of the page going towards bottom right and eventually the 2 lines would meet.

The horizontal line is the calories your body takes in after surgery and the diagonal line is the calories it needs. While the lines are a long way apart you lose quickly and then, as they get closer it slows down and you need to up exercise or watch more closely the things you eat.

When you hear it like that it all sounds so simple!

Although my weight loss has slowed over the last few months I'm still loosing.

Not sure when my body will decide it's done.

I'm on 600 calories worth of supplement drinks at the moment and still I loose.
I Probably eat between 800-1000 calories too, my restriction is very high so I struggle.

I feel I'm ready to maintain now, just don't know how to!

Thanks for the replies , I was chatting with a friend last night & she asked what size I was hoping to get to & it made me wonder whether it is me or my body that decides

Iam 9 months out and usually use 2-3lb a week, I've had one stall for a week but that was too much alcohol for my birthday weekend then the following week I only lost a pound but it was that time of the month, then this week I lost 5lb. Can't remember the last time I had a loss of 5. Personally I think it's about not getting complacent and remember think before you put it in your mouth. I cud quite easily go back to alot of my old eating habits obviously I wudnt be able to eat as much but cud still do alot of damage. I was 26.12 at my biggest, 25.12 at seminar and 24.7 day of op now iam 15.2 so still want another 3 stone 2 off and preying it doesn't stop. Good luck to you all x

Feel free to pm me if you want any tips or sample days etc. I've pretty much cracked maintaining now, but only over the last 4/5 months, it took a long time to get there. I have the occasional ensure drink, but mostly only use them when unwell.

My weight has been near enought stable since the begining of September and I was happy with that.:D
BUT low and behold I managed to lose 5lb this week
I am having a tummy tuck and hernia repair later this month and its predicted that I will lose approx another 7lb which will make my BMI around 22
I really don't want to lose anymore than that.
But my body might think differently.

I saw the dietitian this week and her words of wisdom were
"well it looks like you should try to eat more now"
:rotflmao::rotflmao:

After being told for years
"You need to eat less and move more"
It came as a bit of a shock. I can tell you

I'm 4 months out and 5 stone down but that last 4 pound took weeks to go and now I the scales are not moving. I'm 16.5 stone so I hope I havent just stopped I want at least another 3 stone gone.. but as long as it goes I can wait as long as it takes x

Mandy, review what you eat & how much you may be under eating which is causing this, I had a brief stall I did this & found I was under eating boosting it has triggered bigger losses in the last few weeks . May be worth a try.

I'm sorry to all those that are struggling.
I have been one of the lucky one's that hasn't stalled
BUT i have struggled with eating and dumping

Can't have everything, I suppose, Wendy :( I am doing everything by the book & just can't start losing ... not a stall, just a non starter ... don't dump either so have to be really strict with myself.:cry:

My problem is starting to lose not stopping, lol :cry:

I feel the same Twinkle - it just isn't bloody moving. Are we doing something wrong ? I don't eat a lot at all as I am sure you don't and what I do eat I am easily full with. I know it is still only early days, but it just upsets me to hear that the weight "drops off in the first six months" Please, please, please - Bring it on!!!!! I am waiting. :wave_cry:
