NO YOU SHOULDNT, now never ever ever say that again lol, The NHS would have to pay for your surgery if you needed knee replacements, heart bypasses for being overweight and things like long term diabeties medications, How much money have the NHS spent on smoking cessation and sexually transmitted diseases, methadone for drug users etc etc you are overweight and require surgery to make you live a healthier and happier life (BIOPSYCHOSOCIAL health) by having this surgery you will save the NHS a fortune in the long run, The NHS would dtill treat someone if they had lung cancer caused through smoking, or someone who had stolen a car then crashed it subsequently requiring treatment.
Am i making sense lol
The other thing is that because you asked the question you think your weight issues is soley down to you and therefore you feel like you are taking advantage of the system this is not true, being obese has just been proven to be genetically imprinted on our DNA before birth as is some heart deffects etc and we would still treat those and offer surgery if conventional methods of treatment had failed, some people have food addictions and some people comfort eat this may be due to upbringing or coping mechanisms, we would treat people with menatal health illness, so why not treat you.
YOU ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT AS THE NEXT PERSON, DO NOT LET ANYONE TELL YOU OTHERWISE.
You deserve this to be happy and like you said you have worked all your life why shouldnt the NHS pay.
take care
Helen
