Sleeve study 3 years post op

id be happy with a 6-8 stone loss really, i just need to know if the sleeve will suffice for me as i tend to pig out on chocolate and cakes when im, low, fed up, had a row with my daughter, happy, anything really

I had sleeve and lost 10 stone! It is a brilliant tool on its own. Then Had the rest of the DS and lost a further 8 stone. I think now 4 years on its the sleeve that keeps my weight steady. I still have a very good restriction and even if I don't want to stop eating I have too!!

I need to lose 9 to 10 stone, u think the sleeve will suffice?

from me phone :D

I should be fine, depends what type of eater you are really - I could only make my decision on me - and as I am very greedy when it comes to sweet things I knew I would not be able to do that with a bypass, and having had a band for 10 years, I had learnt how to manipulate it - if and when I wanted to...
However from a surgical risk point they seem to be a lot safer, and are getting some fantastic results.

Fellow sleeve's please do not think I am criticising your procedures - I was mealy commenting on there research findings - it's the nurse in me ! I am yet to hear of someone with a sleeve not doing well x

i eat chocolate and cakes, when im sad, depressed, had a row, happy, anything, im thinking maybe i should have a bypass x

My neighbour had the sleeve feb 2008 and went from 20st to 10st, she is still maintaining so shes one happy lady. Not every bypasser dumps and you can cheat both ops if you really want to.
Caren, as they remove the ghrelin hormone your appetite for everything is greatly reduced, thats how i am finding it .

The sleeve is looking very good so far and remember back in the day when they started doing bypasses they didnt know how successful they would be. Make a decision and dont look back, it will work whatever you choose as long as you follow the rules. :)

It's tough Caren - I don't specialise in Obesity, but have a very personal interest in it, obviously - I would ask you if you are unable to control the link between emotion and cake now - how will your surgical tool (what ever it is band, sleeve, balloon) be able to help you control it?
It is so easy to just get "excited" about the prospect of WLS and you need to make sure that what you choose is the best thing for you now at the time of your heaviest - but also will it suit you for a weight maintenance also?

I was the same and am the same in some ways. However as you begin to get some control back and the weight comes off I started to make better choices. So I agree with you. I don't think being an emotional eater ever goes away but it can be dealt with better with surgery. I'm 100% with you on your choice.

xx.

I am a mood eater too lol. Eat whatever mood takes me. I have curbed that a lot pre ip though. Maybe that's the key Caren. Try to work on it now and any tool will work :)

My sleever mate who has lost all that weight still lives a full life. Just eating a lot less than before. You will be fine whichever op you have. Though it's easy to see your heart was always set on a bypass :( xxx

Ah, I see! :)

My weakness is not sweet food, but buttery mash potato ...... I think I might have to ban it or get myself hypnotised to dislike it (???).

Almost ANY type of surgery I choose would still allow me to eat (small portions) of high calorie buttery (or cheesy) mash ........ so for me, I know I am going to have to work on my head, no matter which surgery I choose

When I see lots of post op advice for WLS peeps on the "mushy" food stage advocating cheesy mash, I think, ummmm perhaps not ......I just know that is my one big down fall food.
