Natural ways to increase protein intake while on liquids without supplements:
Add powdered skim milk to tea/coffee/hot choc in addition to fresh milk to make it high in protein.
Use drinking yogurts.
In thin soups add parmesan cheese to increase protein.
Also, add more milk if you like milk, great source of protein.
Dr. Ammori lists Build-up shakes & Complan shakes as an option directly post-op to boost protein. I think many of the powdered shake mixes are nicer than those two products and have more protein but to each their own.
As for the protein shots, try diluting them in a jug of water, add a bit of sugar free squash and sip it over several hours.
For puree stage, put cheese in everything, poof more protein. Also if you are a dairy lover, stock up on yogurt, cottage cheese and ricotta. Shrimp salad pureed is loaded with protein, eggs are also bril but take it slow since some people do struggle eating eggs early post-op. If you like egg drop soup, you can add a whisked egg to chicken broth, stir until the egg is lovely ribbons, then add a dash of soy sauce, voila you have a very high protein soup.
