Something isnt right! Updated!

FEDup1981

I WILL look like this!!
Sorry, i bet youre all fed up of me by now, but i know something isnt right.

Generally im feeling loads better and healing ok, not taking as many pain killers etc.

BUT i keep having these short sharp shooting stabbing pains on my left side. Its to the left of one of my wounds, not near any wounds. They hurt when i take a breath, and they can be really bad i want to cry.

They hurt more if i try and lay on that side, ut they'll hurt when im standing, sitting, or trying to lay on my other side.

Just tried to ring my specialist nurse but just getting answer machine.

UPDATE
Just got back from the docs and she did a full examination. She said she thinks its my bowel going into spasm from being constipated. I have been to the toilet today and yesterday, but she thinks im still constipated, and shes given me lactulose.
She was ever so nice, and said if it doesnt go away or gets worse, come back asap. She said ive had a major op and its not to be messed with!
Thats put my mind at rest a bit.
Thanks for all ur replies xxxx

get it checked out to put yr mind at rest.

HiYa, Sorry your having this pain, but it will probably be wind, But If I was you I would keep ringing and get yourself checked to be on the safe side, Hope your starting to feel better real soon (((Hugs))) x

Many post-ops (including banders) get a sharp pain on the left side. It usually one of two things, trapped wind is one which can cause intense pain.

Another is a nerve that was injured during you surgery. In that case it will heal on its own but is troubling because the pain is constant. In any case, it is always advisable to check with you team if you are worried. Hope you find some relief soon.

I think the girls have given you good advice fedup I am so sorry you are still in such discomfort, but as a nurse myself I know how painful wind can be post op have seen grown men crying with the pain
However I too think it is always best to get the symptoms checked out especially as it is distressing and worrying you so much you need to have peace of mind yourself and reassurance from your team will help with that
Hope you manage to see someone today , or at least chat to them, and hope you feel better soon
Love n hugs Jay xx

Thanks everyone, i really appreciate ur advice and support.

So after another crippling bout this morning, i decided to call the docs to see if i could get an app. The triage nurse told me to keep trying my specialist nurse, and if no luck by 3pm ring then back. So rang spec nurse again, and listened to her voice mail fully to hear that she is only available mon & Thurs. Arrgghhh!

So thought id ring my surgeons secretary, who isnt nice at all. She said it doesnt sound like anything serious. (say what???? That coming from a receptionist, how the F would she know) and tells me to ring spec nurse in morning. I said she isnt in til thurs, so she said ok ill ask the doc for you. Surprise surprise i havent heard anything.

I went to town, just so i could get out, been stuck in for a week. Was only out an hour, and had to stop 4 times with these pains.

Im so tired and fed up, and beginning to regret it all.

You are only 7 days post op hun...give yourself more time to heal.

I am a bander and I was in some degree of pain for about 2 weeks.

If the pain was constant i would be cncerned and head straight to A&E but if its not then yes the ?Nurse should check it out just to make sure, wind can be very painful, gentle movement and lots of pepermint tea/gripe water will help. Have a large dose gripe water don't forget you are considerably bigger then a baby, do not be frightened of it

Hey, so sorry you're still in pain. Shall I kick the surgeons a** when I go for my band lol.I'm no expert but this does sound like the wind peeps mentioned and I have'nt noticed you mentioning it so maybe with it being so severe you're not recognising it as wind. Get in touch with Liz on thursday if you can cope for that long and I'm sure she'll know what to do. I hope you feel better soon and have no regrets because after all this suffering its got to be worth while when all the weight starts dropping. Hang on in there and it will get better.
Take care xx Gaynor xx

I also had bad pains and went the doctors he put mine down to been constipated once I was moving It sorted itself out

updates first post x

pleased you have been to doctor and got it sorted, hopefully once you get the bowels sorted you will be feeling a lot better. x

Glad you've been to your GP. Once the lactulose gets you sorted it's worth sticking to the benefibre daily to keep on top of things and prevent further problems.

Gaynor - why arent u getting the 1st post?

Basically after a good examination she thinks its constipation, and gave me lactulose, so ill give it as go. She said to go back asap if it doesnt settle x
