T.O.M QUESTION -one for the girls!

I suffer from really horrible heavy periods and yep I have started this month's, and my op is on Friday. The paper knickers have me worried (I dare not imagine how thats going to work!), but what I would like to know is, if the anti clotting injections are going to make things even worse.

obviously i wouldn't have a clue, but i'm guessing the surgical teams have seen this many times, ask them when you go in if you're still bleeding, i'm sure they'll advise you and put your mind at rest ;) oh and good luck x

i'm sure they'll sort you out, more than likely a pad!! you'll be fine xx thank goodness i'm a sorry excuse for a bloke and not a woman!!

I have really heavy totm lasting up to 7 weeks , was on totm in hospital i wore my own underwear right down to surgery. The injections never really made much difference, but there so used to it no-one batted an eyelid and i must have mentioned it 5 times as i was so concerned x good luck hun

I was on, and i wore a pad... trust me, byt the time your in hosp, you wont care at all cos there is so much going on.. and after the op, you REALLY wont care, all my dignity went out the window when i was trying to use a commode hahahahah.

I did find that the op scared my tom off, as it stopped pretty much the day after, even though i had only been on a day or two

.x.

I was 50 when I had my op so TOM was very sporadic - started day of my op and was as heavy as any I'd ever had!! Then had another a month later - my only ones in 2008/2009!!!!

Not sure if the anti-clotting injections affected it

Glad I was knickerless for the op - even though I was still suffering from the bowel clearout stuff :sigh:

Cos I had a catheter when I woke up - came out the next day though

The staff won't be bothered at all - they will be more concerned with your welfare and will cope whatever

Good luck

I had my tom too when I had my op, according to the nurse it's very common! I was given paper knickers and a pad to wear down to theatre, no tampons allowed in theatre.

Weird thing was when I woke up, both the knickers and pad had vanished...

Cuppa xx

Ps whilst we're on the subject, has anyone else suffered much heavier/prolonged periods since their op/losing weight?

Yes I have, not heavier but nearly go on all month. Will go to GP next month if its no better dont want to end up anaemic.

I went down to theatre wearing the gauzy knickers the hospital gave me and I put on 2 pads thinking I would be ok for quite a bit but post op I woke up and found I had a cathetre and no knickers. Told nurse, she just put another pad there. Next morning I had cathetre removed and found knickers and pads underneath me! Dont worry as they are used to dealing/helping patients with this.

I had been having a two week period each month since the op so went last month to see my gp who put me on the pill to regulate it again.

on a positive note at least if there are any accidents you won't have to get up and change the bed or wash the sheets. What will be will be luv. I hope it all goes to plan and your mind is at rest xxx

You are so right, not having to deal with the laundry is a definite high point! thank you for your reply.
