Hi, Just starting my count down to having the band on Saturday.
Spending the week ahead planning and preparing being a Virgo we do things like this.
My story is a very long one regarding weight and loss and gain and loss.

Any way parts of this will emerge as it would be longer than Ann Diamonds which i read over the week end and found very good.

Read and research various things and am also doing a very honest personal journal.

Being a morning person will post probably am.

The diary is an invaluable aid in reaching your target-weight. Putting your goals in writing will motivate you tremendously in achieving them. That’s the success secret of weight-loss groups — and what works in these groups will work just as well on the Internet.

Try the following tips:

1. Answer these questions before starting your diary.

-- How much weight do you want to lose?

-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight?

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?

-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?

-- How realistic is your goal?

-- When will you start?

(Suggestion: print this page and think about the questions when you have a few moments of peace and quiet.)

2. Post the answers.

3. This is a fantastic way to motivate self pinpoint journey and also help others.

Head work stuff :confused::confused:

  1. What is your current height and weight?
  2. If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
  3. At what weight would you like to be at three / four months from now?
  4. Why do you want to lose weight?
  5. Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? as a short term aim .If so, when is that event?
  6. What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
  7. Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
  8. What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
  9. Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
  10. Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?
  11. What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work?
  12. Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
  13. Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
  14. How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
  15. What are your three favorite foods?
  16. What are your three favorite eating places.
  17. What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
  18. If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?
  19. Do you eat when you are not hungry?
  20. Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
  21. Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
  22. Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
  23. Do you eat as a reward?
  24. Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
  25. What do you normally eat for a meal?
  26. What type of snacks do you eat?
  27. In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
  28. Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?
  29. What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
  30. What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
  31. Do you have rewards for certain goals?
These all mean something to me, may seem a long winded way to go about things but spend so much pain, distress in thai aspect of my life so going to give it 100% and make it no matter what for now the priority.

Hi, thank you so much for this thread. I have been thinking about my goals etc, so these will give me something to work on. I wish I was as organised as you are. I hope the rest of the your pre-surgery diet goes alright and all the best for Saturday.

Mia

Forget to say this am put my pedometer on as well and intend to keep walking as much aspossible every day not counting steps daily but will total up weekly and enter on here.
Keep it simple!!!!! mia
back to work

4 days to my band been fitted,so far only told my close friend whom i seen last night.

We went to see a picture Dorian Gray which was very good. Later we went to have a drink and a bit to eat but they had stopped serving food i had intended to have soup, so had a bowl when i got in later.

Speaking to Annie, about the first 2 months from what i have learned on here made me realise how hard i have to work and the thing i will have to change is drinking with meals(water by the way ) I dont drink alcohol and when i go out i enjoy lime soda or diet coke so i will have to find different low cal drinks not fizzy( have been told to steer clear by provider) unfortunately i dont like fruit juices find they too sweet and thick consistencey.
May have to have just plain bottle water ,will ponder on that one.

Next 2 days same foods , as previous days.

Off now with a friend for a 30 min walk around local park we go 3 times a week at 6.30am bye for now

Hi Mia, glad to hear things are going well. It is lovely to see that you are really taking the bull by the horns and making the most of your opportunity. I wish you the very best of luck and I hope it is smooth sailing for you.

Nic;)

Sorry about that it got pasted 3 times so very long

As i have got some time now will write up from admission to Alex Ward on Saturday at 7am.

Went to reception, choose to go alone and a porter /assistant took me to the room.
it was a single room en suite with t.v suddenley remembered that previous peps had said a fan might be a good idea. In my case it would of been as heating was off but it was still very warm.

Just starting to unpack and look at the little pile of items already on the bed a gown, a sample pot, some literature, and dsposal slippers, and knickers.

A nurse came in told me someone else would be along to take bloods i asked had they moved me up the list, she looked and said no each op took about 45mins to an hour i was fourth and there was 6 of us.

i was told to be prepared as soon as possible as the order may change.
Bloods taken, arm idenfication put on.

Another nurse as i am still unpacking, to go through procedure in detail(shes my day nurse).
details as follows, Claire from healthier weight would come to see me , Dr Ashton , Dr Favoratti, and another surgeon would be along to see me shortly to answer any questions i may have.
God it was busier than the officeon a hetic day.

Nurse explained i would be measured up for stockings issued with another pair, to take home and to put them on when igot them and wear them constantly for 10 days.

I would go to the loo, change put pants on slippers and walk to theatre, then i would be in a check room befor moving into the pre op room to meet the anthistis( you know what i mean).
Nurse said she would be with me in recovery room as i woke, stay with me escort me back to own room ,not to worry about valuables as once i left the room every thing would be lovcked till my return from theatre.
So my crown jewels would be same.

Later she would give me sips of water about 20mls and get me up to walk around a bit.

This Nurse(sorry cant remember her name) took pulse, took temp, did mrsa test nose and groin will let me know in 10 days if i carry the bug 10! days seems to crop up a lot in surgery.
For the 4th time that day already (only 7.30am ) She said oh its your birthday what a day to come in . I said i choose that out of 2 days offered as could not think of a nice present to myself on my 54 birthday.

Another nurse came still had not unpacked,( good job i did not have much)
took me on to hall way and weighted me, then the surgeons followed me in got me sign yet again my consent, went over the time it took laid down they pressed and proddedmy tummy and said no problem 2 were Italian it sounded wonderful.

Doctor Ashton said where my single incision would be (Navel Area)
The other two pioneers of this surgery in 1993, smiled at my wobbly jelly belly like it was a work of art.
Birthday came up again, saying they would be very gentle. Felt reassured (no time yet to get nervous.

Just got to put book on side ,diary, back came the stocking nurse.
Time to get changed into the matching green and blue gown, tight stocking very hard to get on legs are my big feature.

Once on they felt really o.k in fact i would say comfortable.

Just finished unpacking then Claire (nurse from healthier weight) she has got a much fancier title than that, came in.
Told me she was going to give me a heparin injection in my tummy ,jelly belly out again now in paper nicks what a sight( never even when i was having a baby have so many people seen me undressed) begining not to care.

Clarie gave me a filofax inset for paper work i already had , talked over the food plan 3 weeks liquis to enable band to bond/knit securely, no solids or semi solids no fizzy drinks.
Said she would call early evening and see me again on Sunday.

Amazed i am not thirsty ,washed my teeth sevral times and sprayed the gold spot spray copuisly all morning.

Read the paper, walked up and down in the room.
wrote my diary and waited not nervous yet using distraction techniques.

On and off the toilet, nothing left to pass, then the nurse came for me. Coul,nt fill the specimen pot.
It was about 12. 32pm (THAT WAS THE TIME).
walked down to theatre, a young antisitis checked all my details and took me into another room to check if blood tests were back. he found they were and said fine,( dont know what he was looking for)
Then into the room outside the theatre, (now getting nervous and seaty) laid down as told then he was told by the senior a......... that patients bottoms had to right against this rolled bolster.( does he know what hes doing?)
Any way going in detail as this is what i would like to know if i was having this procedure)

Put me on a drip felt great immediately as it was to re hydrate me also mixed into that was the pre med took 15 mins in this room and was nervous he keeped telling me to relax and then gave me a mask to breath into said it was oxygen, was'nt a bit sleepy see previous thread.
Senior man came out i said i dont want to go into the theatre till i am asleep he said dont worry i promise you that you will be asllep in minutes must have added something to my drip because next thing i knew i was in recovery with my morning nurse it was 2 14pm.

Will write the rest up Friday night ............... Sorry ifs it long and boring but to any one wanting to know detail is a fine thing.........

Still on Saturday 19/09/09
Thankfully could have a drink small sips, about 60mls in all, feeling a bit sickly.
I was dozing on and off all afternoon till about 5pm.

5pm got up and went o loo, sat in chair and had small sips of water, through out the evening went up and down the room, numerous times took my Arnica, Ledum , and rescue remedy.

about 6.30pm went for a walk down the corridor and back, as i got back felt very sickly took deep breaths, raised legs on side of bed, did not need pain killers or any thing else at the time.

About 8pm hada wash (had kept drinking every 15 mins 10 mls or so)
Feeling fine but slight nausea.

Nurses came at different times and took temp and B.P .

Had several walks up and down corridor, seen by Claire from H.W and Dr Asthon about this time.
Just a check of jelly belly and to ask if i was feeling alright which i was. he prescribed some pain killers, nausea tabs but i did not need them yet.

Settled down to sleep about 10pm when i was fitted with these blow up booties on the legs. Still sipping water, when nurse came in to check vitals she suggested i take nausea tab under my tongue and said why suffer, how right she was nausea completely went after that.

Not a great sleep but not in any pain whatso ever.
pulled my pyjams down to check i had ,op.

Woke up very warm and watch THE JOY LUCK CLUB recommend to any women re mother and daughters relationships so sad but so inspiring.

Dozed off dying for a cup of tea or something comforting,we cant have anything till seen by surgeon next morning apart from water.

Thanks for sharing your journey so far hun, makes for interesting reading definately. Hope you are doing well, you certainly looked well this weekend!

Nic:D

Thank You Nicole, Feeling tons better already.....

You and hubby have a great connection you can see and feel it wow.......

Love the pic of him cross dressing haha. Dont ruin that top its great.

Sunday 20th September 2009.

Up waitng for discharge and a cup of tea.
Seen at 9am by the 3 surgeons who operated yesterday all smiling at my jelly belly so must be ok under the dressings.. 2 are italian and speak broken English so its very sexy what ever they say.
Shortly after seen by Claire and then the physio who walked me up and down gave me 3 sets of exercises and told me one never to do again with the band in which may cause port problems
Never to lean back in camel position ie head backtowards back wall, hands on hips and push tummy out this can damage the band anfd port.
Was also told this later at the support meeting.

Had a lovely cup of tea, drank a couple of jugs of water by now slowly.

Extra pair of socks given, to wear for 10 days, letter for G.P.
As its nearly 1pm i decide to tell my lift to leave me till 3pm and go to the support meeting in the conservatory.
Later go home, have an evening walk of 15 mins x 2 and manage 1056 steps today.
Sleep well from 10pm onwards.

The rest of the week uneventful , no pain ,minor bouts of wind, drinking the 5 shakes/soups plus water.
Doing my prescribed walking which is 15 mins a day 2,ooo steps.

First day i felt hungry was excatly a week later on the Sunday, so uppped the shakes which are getting boring.
I can live with this though. Not been very tired either which surprised me and over the 2 weeks lost 11ibs, long story but only now got 19ibs to go.............
May explain later some time Mia

Just wanted to say a Massive congrats & Thanks for sharing your story. also CONGRATULATIONS On the birth of your little grandson, How sweet and also Happy beleated Birthday, Gosh its been all go for you hey!
Rest up and take care & wishing you a speedy recovery! x

Finding the 2 weeks on liquids very boring( have to do 3 weeks) also feeling very hungry, as added some fruits to blender and shakes so not in ketosis.
Anyway nearly there so stop complaining 2just for today "

Today had a two week check up on scars healing, have lose a stone a whole 14ibs since the morning of my surgery, could not believe it.

I immediately felt slimmer and thought my trousers felt bigger, what a head i have

Dr Ashton took photos of my stomach scars which are virtually non existence, slight mark inside the navel area and a yellow bruise on the rt lower upper abdomen.
He brought the female assistant in ( with my permission) to look at it and she wanted to know if she could feel my port, i had no idea where it was, told her to feel away.

Found out it is to the right above my navel area ,(not had the courage to feel it yet myself ) scared i may dislodge it.

Told Dr Ashton i was feeling hungry he has told me to carry on with fluids for another week and up the packets to double 3/4 a day till puree soft foods next week.

I have the all clear to go back to keep fit but go easy !

Back in 6 weeks for a fill..............

Really pleased with every thing so far at last i have help with my food complusion before it was sheer hard work, willpower, and desperation..
