TOTM - guys cover your eyes

Ok i am on TOTM which is rare as i use a hormonal coil to control them, i had a new one fitted a couple of month before my op, and had a fairly normal TOTM after my op although it was a little prolonged. I put this down to adjusting to the things i had had done to me plus the infection i caught. This month however my hormones are all over the place, to the extent i am tired all the time, crying for no reason at all, and unable to get motivated on anything. Even eating is a chore.

Before i confront my Dr next month (if its like this again i will have to) is it possible the hormone inbalance is down to the weight loss despite having the hormonal coil?

This scares me as it will mean me having a hysterectomy (sp?) as that is the only option left open if the hormonal coil is now failing

Hi TS,

I've found that since the op my periods have gone a bit crazy. They were still regular, but much heavier with worse PMT symptoms and horrid womb-ache. It's really common with weight loss.

The mirena doesn't always stop periods. I had it twice, the first time I bled continually for 4 months, the second I had regular periods lol. It could be that it's still working in the contraceptive sense (the mirena works in more than one way, so it should be), but the increased hormone levels are meaning that you're having bleeds anyway.

It should settle down once your weight loss journey slows down, but it could be a fair while yet.

my periods have been all over since iv been loosing iv got to have a merena fitted as i bled for weeks so id say this may be the reason why but always worth getting checked if your doing anything different to normal

That doesnt sound promising, i have used them now for 10 years, was haing periods towards the end of the last one but put that down to it running out, however i did not have such massive mood swings with it at that time and the weight loss is asociate it with

Hi ts, im on my third mirena coil. With the first two i had no real bleeding at all, but have had the third one in a year now and have had bleeding this time but since having the band fitted in november it has been a lot heavier and lasted a lot longer and i, like you have been suffering the mood swings, which i've never had before. julie

I have had 2 totm since my op both can on the day they were ment to, and have been the same as pre op. Lucky for me I have never suffered with them. Hope it sorts its self out Tendersage

When I had rapid weight loss before (Atkins) my Mirena played up too.....My Dr suggested it was due to the fact hormones are stored in Fat (what a delightful thought!) and that loosing fat leads to in-balance in your levels but they will work themselves out and periods should return to normal. Mine did when I started putting the weight back on (who needs Dr Atkins lol!!!)

I can sympathise with u on this 1. Ever since my op, I have had regular to continuous bleeding. My Doctor put it down to the rapid weight loss, and that the hormones that used to live in my fat are floating around now...and obviously have too many! lol I did get seen by the specialist just to make sure there was no other reason, and all is tickety boo there! I did have the implant though, which was removed a couple of weeks ago to see if that made any difference. It has been recommended that I have a D&C if things do not settle. I am now using the derma patches...which 2 be honest I do not trust! lol. I am now being referred for sterilisation which my gynae doctor is very happy to do. Things have not settled and still very erratic. Just 1 of those things I guess...but hey its worth it to lose all the weight I have! My weight had stabilised over the last 5 weeks and thought that would have made a difference but sadly not....but I have just started losing again! :) My blood and hormone levels are all perfect, so no medical reason why this is happening. Just a side effect I guess.

It does seem quite common that this happens, so will be interesting to see when and how things settle for others.

After reading everyones replies i think i should make an appointment with my GP and get it looked at, i can't go on month after month like this, it is going to affect my work and relationships are going to get really strained if i can't get it back under control.
