Okay as i have now lost 21 stone and still weighing 12 stone 7 pounds with loads of excess skin what do you think my chances are of getting nhs funding for plastics on my arms and thighs. I could live with my body the way it is if i had to. I don't have skin problems just this ugly excess skin. What do you think ?:confused::confused:

WELL APPOINTMENT OVER WITH MIXED FEELINGS REALLY. HE SAID ARMS ARE A DEFINATE NO NO AS THE GOVERMENT ARE DOING SO MANY CUTBACKS BUT SAID TO LEAVE IT 18 MONTHS AS SOME SKIN WILL SETTLE AND GOVERMENT FUNDING CHANGES. HE DID HOWEVER SAY YES TO A LOWER BODY LIFT WHICH SHOULD PULL SOME OF MY EXCESS SKIN OUT ON MY LEGS BUT I WILL STILL HAVE A LOT OF EXCESS SKIN THERE BUT DID NOT SAY THAT EXCESS SKIN SURGERY ON MY LEGS WAS DEFINATELY RULED OUT SO ALL IN ALL IT WAS A GOOD OUTCOME AND THE WAY THE GOVERMENT FUNDING IS BEING PULLED AT THE MOMENT I COUNT MYSELF REALLY LUCKY THEY ARE PREPARED TO DO SOMETHING FOR ME. sO I AM NOW OFFICIALLY ON HIS WAITING LIST BUT THE APPOINTMENT WAS VERY EMBARRASING AND SOMETHING I DO NOT REALLY WANT TO GO THROUGH AGAIN. JANEY:eek::)

I was told before surgery that plastic surgery was definately out post op.

But, then nothing ventured, nothing gained, unless it is going to make you down if you dont get it.

Go for it.

my theory is if you dont ask you dont get...
congratulations on your fantastic weight loss .
i would ask theres no harm in trying

I agree with Kerry, after such a massive weightloss you should get the plastics and if you dont ask they wont know you want it :D Good Luck x

What's it gonna cost to ask? 30 minutes of your time and a little trip to the doctors............ Go for it xxx

Janey, Im currently at this stage myself and just this week went to the GP to ask for a referral for plastics.

Just remember its not your GP that will make the decision, but you do need them on board to make that initial referral. Just ask him to refer you to a specialist to find out the possibility of getting any reconstruction surgery on the NHS.

You have lost such an incredible amount of weight that if anyone deserves this, you do.

Will keep my fingers crossed for you x

wow wat a great weight loss u must be so pleased, im sure they will refer u good luck and keep us all posted no harm im asking hun x

Yep, I'm with everyone else. It's worth a shot. you won't know until you ask.
I hope you have a positive outcome. xxx

I agree with the guys, if you dont ask...............good luck Janey, you certainly deserve it xxxx

Some pcts will fund a tummy tuck, in all honesty I've not heard of arms and legs being funded :(

First step, get a copy of your pcts policy on 'low clinical priority procedures' which should tell you all you need. Lots of them are online, or contact pals or the pct direct. Good luck x

I'm gonna say exactly the same as everyone else, if you dont ask you dont get. Just go and make an inquiry :) xxx

1st port of call is your GP, see what they reckon, personally i think you sholud definitely get it, cos your weightloss is fanbloodytastic....the best route is not to say oh it so bothers me the way i look rather than it causes you pain when you walk/exercise, getting infections under your folds etc, the only way of knowing is to ask, best of luck!! ;)

I would go for it. Given your fantastic weight loss they ought to treat you as an exceptional case. You have nothing to lose by asking.

update

Just to update you all and thank you all for your lovely comments my doctor has refered me and i have an appointment on the 22 sept with a plastic surgeon in dudley. I am very scared though and nervous just in case he says no. I feel i have come so far and have just this last hurdle to go over to a perfect end. I have lost a bit more weight and am now 12 stone 3 pounds and my BMI is now 27.6 i only hope this is low enough for him.
