hi everyone,
im a little confused about the whole referrel procedure.
i live in south yorkshire, have a local doctor.
my sleep apnea clinic consultant is in east yorkshire.
my question is this.....
can only my home doctor apply for pct funding where i live in south yorkshire?
,or can my consultant apply for my funding from his pct in east yorkshire even though i do not live in that area.
i go to see my sleep apnea consultant tomorrow and want to be armed with as much info as i can,as my local gp is not keen on me having op.
please note my sleep apnea consultant beleives i should have surgery.
hope this makes sense.
help
kind regards tracie

Hi your GP has to write out to the PCT for funding, however, if you have sleep apnea the consultant's findings should be forwarded to the PCT. In my case this is what swung it for me with the PCT. Good luck...xx

Hi,

It's the PCT area you live in that has to be applied to, not the one where your surgeon is based.

ooh dear

hi charlie girl,
hope your feeling ok ,soon be up and about and having the time of your life girl.
thanks shell, congrats on all your weight loss.
looks like i have to hope for a miracle or lottery win then,
as my gp does not want me to have operation and my bmi is now too low as in the past 3 months lost 1 stone 8 lbs on my own on a low fat diet and have been on reductil 1 week tomorrow, first weigh in ,in the morning with the nurse at my doctors.
bmi for barnsley as to be 50 or 45 with morbidities,i'm now 44.1 with morbidities.
thanks for info anyway .
kind regards

Hiya Tracey, docs in Barnsley will want you to try all other ways of losing weight with them before refering you to a surgeon, which out of interest is usualy rodger acroyd, this is so the pct can see that you have tried all other ways of losing weight and nothing has worked. Now I have got everything crossed for you that the weight is going to come off and stay off, if however this is not the case and you regain the weight you can go back to your gp and ask for referal. Go and see the sleep apnea specialist as he may feel that you need the surgery and can back up your application if your require the op in the future!

Have to say the sleep apnea swung it for me.....all the time I had it I thought it was just something I would have to live with for the rest of my life, I hate going to bed, no matter how tired I am I know its going to be a horrible messy sleep, it affected my ability to work, I became very emotional in and out of work and I honestly thought I would have no quality of life. To think 9 hours hooked up to a machine is now going to help change my life, I feel very very lucky indeed...and although yesterday I woke with the horrible headache today I have none and feel so much more positive.....try and get tested for it even if you dont think you have it.....good luck...xx
