hi ones from preston can you please tell me how you got started and how long it took i dont know what to do next keep failing

hiya i first had a look into the different types of ops after i had exhausted all other weight loss methods and as i have a bmi of 52 at the time and other illness that would benefit from weight loss my gp agreed and sorted out asking the pct for funding (btw this is the best time of year as they have their new budget) once that had been agreed (my gp let me know) i was refered by her to a wls consultant which in my case was at a private hospital in macclesfield and had to wait for a date to see him in dec and after that i have waited 20 weeks till my surgery date next week. in all the process took close to a year. hope that helps if you have any questions give me a shout x

hi, i am from Blackpool , so not far away. My GP told me that he would refer me but could not guarentee that i would get an appointment. He referred me to Manchester Hope Hospital, Dr News clinic. They did agree to see me :p and have agreed to refer me for WLS :D:D:D

I first went to see my GP in November about wls (i had been going to the doctors for 4 years on varous diet pills ect). GP told me to go back after Christmas after i had done some research. I didn't go back to him until middle of March. I then got the appointment through for Dr News clinic for the 2nd April 09.
I have to have a sleep apnea test and then i will be referred to the surgeon. Fingers crossed it wont take forever

Good luck with your weight loss journey xxx

After trying all ways to loose weight and failing I went to see my GP and asked to be referred for banding...he sent off the referral but the PCT said I did not have much hope of getting funding at my BMI was only 35 with high BP. I was referred to see Dr New at Hope hospital and at first he wanted to put me on a 300 calorie a day diet, we discussed things further and he said he would refer me to a surgeon but he could not decide if band or bypass was the way forward for me. I then started researching the two methods and decided I felt the bypass would be more suitable. I was then refused funding by the PCT and advised to attend weight management clinic for two years. Whilst this was happening I had been referred by Dr New for sleep apena tests and when this came back positive with mild apnea the PCT then granted the funding. I had already seen Mr Ammori the surgeon at spire manchester prior to funding being in place and he thought I was a good candidate for bypass. Once funding was granted the PCT wanted me to then see a different surgeon at Macclesfield and start the process again as that was there preferred hospital. I fought this with the help of the Department of Health and used my right to choose which hospital I attended. It took me just under 21 weeks from seeing the GP to getting the op, I was however fighting and nagging every single step of the way. 23 weeks later and 60 pounds lighter with 24 to go to goal....it was hard getting the funding and then it all happened very very quickly...my advice do your research, chase up letters and appointments (you would be surprised how many letters go astray) and dont take no for an answer....as said earlier its a good time to apply due to the new budgets being out for the PCT's...xx

Hi, I live in Blackburn, originally from Preston though. I had a band with WGA at Dolan Park, Bromsgrove at the end of Oct. Very slow weight loss as not had much restriction but getting there slowly lol.

Hi not from preston but wanted to welcome you to mini's and wish you good luck on your quest, you will find masses of help and advice on here

hi could you please tell me how you get everything going i am so lost and dont know what to do
kerry

Speak to your GP and ask him to refer you. You need to know what your PCT criteria is ie Preston is BMI of 35+ with co morbidities like high blood pressure or sleep apnea....then not sure if BMI of 40 or 45 without any comorbidities....GP makes the referral....xx
