I agree with baby flower on this, the decision to go for either op is a big one and be under no illusion that whichever you choose it will rule your life for a long time, i was set for a band till i met my consultant who recommended i go for a bypass, with a BMI of 50 and at my start weight and given my innability to follow any sort of diet the bypass would work best for me. I'm sure any of the banders here would agree that a band has to really be worked with, with any slip seeing a gain in weight, to make a band work your head really has to be in the right place, those that are successful here with bands are switched on and make there tool really work for them.
A bypass will let you get away with a bit more, and workes on two fronts, the restrictive eating (same as a band) and malabsorbtion.
I think really the best advice is to go see your consultant with an open mind, dont be afraid of the bypass, in my mind it was no more evassive than having a band, its a bit easier to live with as there's no fills or let downs and theres no failure rate to deal with, ask loads of question especially about post op issues, though in the grand scheme of things you get used to living with these, and trust me the benefits really outweigh the negatives.
