Be Honest- Any regrets with Gastric Band?

I'm sorry to say mine was total disaster, having it removed tomorrow. Long story short, had mine in almost 5 years ago. First 3/4 months were OK and lost almost 30 kilos. Than all problems started and couldn't eat anything without all food getting stuck. Because I moved to UK in between, I was passing around doctors trying to figure out what was wrong. And me still in agony and putting more and more weight :(

Finally, I did some research of my own, asked for a referral to St Richards and in my first appointment I felt it was all so worth it as for the first time I actually saw a brilliant doctor (mr Sommers) who knew what I was going through and explained it all to me. Just for that I felt so grateful. He immediatelly reccommended removing band and replace for bypass but, with my luck I obviously had funding denied :(

Mr Sommers re-applied last September and from Christmas onwards I was feeling even worst, constantly with stomach pains and feeling sick and throwing up all the time.

Got my funding finally approved in beginning of January and finally having surgery tomorrow :)

I am way over the moon only with the thought of removing this ************ band, honestly. Don't wish anyone what I've been going through.

I know it doesn't happen to everyone and Mr Sommers explained that to me, it was just my body who rejected it.

I'm anxious for the bypass as well as currently on 19 stones. But I'm scare at the same time, fearing the post-op sickness I've been reading around. Know it doesn't last but just don't know if I can take it one more time of it :(

I'm sure at the end of the day and in long term run we will all be fine and hopefully no more regrets :)

Wishing everyone (and me for tomorrow!!) the best of success and happiness :)

I WISH I hadn't resurrected this ****ing thread!  lol.

I need to not look at it anymore. lol :D

Rhj - 2010 - you can't post something like that without giving the full facts. What exactly was it that was causing the pain and the constant vomiting? 30kgs is a good loss ... how much did you lose in the 5 intervening years of having the band?

Where did you have the band done?

Thanks in advance .... :)

Don't get worried, :) lol.

It was my body that rejected the band thus me having constant sickness as when I eated food would get stuck. This could happen both on solids and liquids.

I stopped losing weight once the problems started and today I actually have more weight than before; likely, because I lost all eating habits (what ever it wouldn't make me sick and get stuck).

It is weird and not an example, just my misery case :( Think each bodie reacts differently thats all there is to it.

Know about loads of plp who had band done and did great, know about some who did it and decided to remove it and later stage but that never had issues as I had.

It might also be that my issues were so complicated because it lasted until I find a doctor in UK who could really help me as per specialisation on the matter (had my band done back home).

Hope this lights ur concerns :) did not meant to upset anyone, just telling my story :)

Thanks

Bonjourno everyone long time no see! Just thought I would come back and give you all an update. I have NOOOOOOO regrets whatsoever about the band. I have read back through all our previous comments and am pleased to say nothing (touch wood) has gone wrong. The weight is coming off slowly but surely. I have lost 3 stones now and am still loosing. Yipee! I have never told anyone about my op and have managed to hide it well. The only thing I miss sometimes is a can of Pesi Max and a sandwich lol. I now feel alive and not just existing. Why oh why did I dilly dally in having it done? Good luck to all you people thinking of going for a band, take advantage of this forum as I did I had some fabulous advice.

All the best Prinny.xx
