Bristol South Mead???

Hi

Has anyone been here for NHS. I have picked this one as it is closest to my home but havent seen any mention any where..............

I also had Bournemouth and Taunton but travelling to far is not an option I can take due to young children needing attention too. (my son has ADD and its difficult for him to be away from me for long periods has panic attacks)

Oh well decission made ive had a look on the websites but really didnt find anything out so fingers crossed not too much waiting.

Hi Ann

My sister lives in Wiltshire and is hoping for a band. She has recently been informed that she has funding and is likely to be going to Southmead. I understand that Southmead have only recently been given the go-ahead for bariatric surgery so you are unlikely to see much about the centre yet.

My sis is not active on these forums yet but I suspect she will be soonish.

Hi Ann,
I was referred but my doctor and got have NHS funding took about 2 months for the funding to be given (I live in Monmouthshire). I was sent an appointment at southmead within 3 weeks of funding being granted. I found the team to be very helpful and easy to talk to; they have a web site.

It can take around four hours for you first visit they like you to spend three quarters to an hour talking with each member of the team (the specialist nurse, the specialist nutritionist and doctor Andrew Johnson). You will get a copy of the letter they send to your doctor about 5 days after you first appointment.

They hold the clinic in outpatients 3. As you go in off the monks road entrance, park in the first car park on the right about 50 yards inside the entrance. Walk across the car park to the accident and emergence entrance go in through the doors and turn right it is sign posted from there.

I had my first op abroad. Before that I had an appointment with the team that work from Southmead at BUPA Bristol. They were really good and I wanted to stick with them but I kept hearing about a famous surgeon who charged much less overseas. I went to him instead and needed another op. I should have stayed with them. I was really impressed with the first (long) appointment and heard lots of good things about their aftercare.
