Can any bypassers help

dreamofbeingslim

Can't wait for next appt
Went to see my gp yesterday for usual check up. We were discussing which op I was going for and she was saying to check with the surgeon because years ago when she was doing her training they did the bypass for cancer patients and it caused alot of abdominal pain and wooshing noices everytime they ate or drank something. Does this still apply? I will still be having this surgery as so desperate to do something but just was interested to know. Thanks.

Hi
Didn't want to just read and run. I'm only 12 days post op, so not the most experienced person and i can't comment on how these things change over time but at the moment i'm getting some light fluttering sensation and gurgling noises. Its not too loud and i'm not getting any pain when i eat. Trapped wind pain was bad at first but is getting better every day.

I get gurgling noises if I eat to much or when I eat the wrong foods and if I eat to much. As for abdominal pain I do get soome if I over eat, but not as a general rule of thumb. If I lie funny sometimes its unconfortable but not all the time.

Hope this helps x

This is exactly how it is for me as well.

Gurgling noises, smelly wind and smelly number 2's but all easy to live with...cept when you need a number 2 in work :( lol

lol salski! but yep im hearing ya! im all the same! xx

I get lower abdominal pain when i eat a big meal, not quite sure why this is really as the food doesn't reach it in one hit, and as others have said, smelly poo, smelly farts and lots of gurgling noises down below, none of which is unlivable with, and far more preferable than being fat.

When I used to eat, prior to diets etc, I used to fart uncontrollably, burp all the time. My guts used to sound like a factory. Post bypass, I will naem two winds, obviously number one is the gas they put in you to blow up your tummy so they can operate, they dissapates, movement definately helps, it also travels in your blood stream. Number two wind is the air you take in with your sips, and ultimately thats down to you to perfect. I have been having success with a straw.
Fact is, by having our bypasses we have been in effect 'replumbed'. Some plumbing is noisy, travelling air can be painful, but it is down to you to weigh the pros and cons of what you want from this type of surgery. Also there is the band, if you don't want the bypass.
Takes a lot of thinking about this type of surgery, I know I had sleepless nights over it. Its a big decision, with lifetime implications.

Hi all thanks for your replies I definately want this op it was just something she said. Just thought I would check with you all.

I also burp a lot more and get pains if I try and hold them in. They also become spontaneous if I don't let them out, it has been known before when in company that I have held them in and have come out mid sentence. I have found that it's far easier now to go to the toilet and burp if I feel uncomfortable 80)

Smelly toilet visits and wind can be helped in public if you carry a can of impulse! I do get abdominal pain after eating but feel it could be my colitis not just the bypass.

I would still prefer to live with the tougher parts of wls if I am able to take part in life more like I currently am!

Good luck with which ever decission you make but do let your surgical team give you their ideas of which surgery they feel best suits you.
