Chances of surgeon saying no???

Having just written about my latest letter (in a long list of trials and tribulations) in my diary ; http://www.wlsurgery.com/pre-op-diaries/145416-lets-st

I am wondering, what are the chances of being turned down by a surgeon once funding is in place?

has this ever happened?

They're not likely hon. They will possibly ask you to shift another bit of weight and you may need to go through another diet process to do this. Also they might ask you to be on cpap therapy for six months before they're willing to do the op to ensure that you're at optimum fitness for your op - bottom line is they will only say not yet if you're not fit and well, and they will see if you're psychologically suited - if they feel you're not they'll suggest therapies to try. More hoops to jump through - but you've fought for so long I doubt this will be a biggie for you.

Thanks again Yves. Already losing again, aiming to be at least another two stones lighter before seeing team, so fingers crossed x

Be careful as they will give you a percentage to lose and I would stall completely at about 2 stone.

Zero!

I have never heard of a surgeon saying "no" ..... but only "wait" a bit longer if other things not done or in place (e.g. 6 months use of CPAP machine pre-op) or if a *small* token amount of weight has not been lost.

I knew one person on the Whittington waiting list who had to wait LONGER for her op (over 6 months longer) because she broke the cardinal rule and PUT ON weight (9 lbs) in between two appointments ...... but I have not come across anyone who has ever been told an outright "no".

Not sure if this is the same situation but I was told that if I put on weight during the process that they would discharge me as unsuitable, that was Luton and Dunstable. It was after the first milk diet.

I continued to lose from then on!
