has anyone any experience of claiming pip allowance ? my mobility is so bad now I have to be driven around I cant walk more than 100yrds and been told as on perminant painrelief to claim for this but im unsure as to weather too or not I have no idea of when my surgery will be yet any one with exprence of these things?

I couldn't walk more than a few steps so claimed DLA (I believe it's changed names now) I was awarded it. It helped support me when I couldn't work. Sounds like you are in a similar situation so might well be able to claim. I think you can fill in a form online.

This site is well worth the joining fee. I followed the advice applying for my partner and he got an award without a medical being necessary.

The trick to claiming is to complete the form as though it is a really bad day.

Sorry, but that is really poor advice. The reason is, if someone claims that way, all it takes is for the DWP to show that there are days where they're not as bad as that and the person has effectively committed fraud.

If you have a fluctuating condition, then fill in the forms with an estimate of best and worse case, for example if it asks how long on average it takes you to go the shops, answer: "15 - 40 mns" (or whatever). This way, the DM (decision maker) knows that this is something which varies.

PIP is so new it's really hard to gauge how hard it is going to be to get it, although we already know that they want to cut at least 20% of the budget down, so it's easy to work out they will do this by dropping as many people as they can off disability benefits. Even as we speak, advocacy groups are still fighting to get the regulations changed for mobility, as the distance criteria was dropped from 50 to 20 meters with no consultation and no warnings when the regulations were laid, which is ridiculous. The reality is that no-one really knows at this point how to best respond to a PIP claim form, so the best advice is to do it in the same way as one would do a DLA form.

Another bone of contention is the Atos (or others like-minded companies) carrying out assessments which are deeply flawed and ignoring the evidence from our own doctors and specialists.

All in all, it's a bleak picture.

However, don't let this deter you, if you don't apply, you can't get.
Remember to list all the ways in which your condition affects you *but you may not even be aware that you are doing this to adapt to it*. For example, I don't know, going down stairs 1 step at a time with both feet because it's more stable that way, or if you have installed grab rails in your bathroom, and so on.

I am a disability / special needs lay advocate, and what I see most often with DLA forms is people having got so used to making adaptations to their lifestyle to manage their issues that they don't even think of it as outside the norm any more, and then they wonder why they get refused by the DWP. It's also embarrassing to divulge all and so we tend to not want to write it all down, but that's a mistake. I say to parents I am helping that if they're not in tears by the time they have finished completing the forms for their kids, they haven't done them properly.

If you need any help, PM me once you have the forms.

I get high rate mobility and care call DIAL to help you fill the forms they are fab at helping you.

i get high/high dla for care/mobility i had to appeal to get it as they based original decision on old medical advice from my old gp i was awarded 2 years for now as they say after surgery condition could improve well fr as im aware there is no cure for arthritis and degenerative spinal disorders so apply and dont be scared top appeal if you have to

I too have DLA and Mobility issues,, I have spinal stenosis and have had spinal surgery plus 2 hip replacements
HOWEVER
If when I have lost my weight I can walk unaided without sticks etc..I will be the first to say "Here you go give it to another that deserves it more than me"..my mobility is so precious to me..
I cannot wait to see if it helps my walking and exercise :)

ive been told for years to claim but i couldnt face it as i know how invasive dla forms are from filling in every last thing my daughter cannot do. i had just gotten my head round to applying for pip when i found out a woman i know with similar mobility issues to me ( can just about walk from my house to the car before my legs give out ) was refused pip completly so am not sure now

you have to call dwp to apply for pip and they ask for national insurance number, doctors details, bank details etc and questions about your condition and if everythings in order then they will send the forms for you to fill out

https://www.gov.uk/pip/how-to-claim

if you do apply and use facebook there is an excellent page there that will help with all the advice you need and they have a high success rate for people getting benefits with no medicals etc

Quick update on PIP:

The govt has now delayed the beginning of reassessment of people on DLA for crossing over to PIP, which was due to start this month (except in the trail areas).

They claim it's because of the numerous answers to the consultation which took place over the last few months. What everyone else knows is that the whole thing is in complete chaos, omnishambles doesn't start to cover it, and although the reassessment process is supposed to be simply delayed by a month or so, many of us suspect that it will be delayed indefinitely.

What it means is that if you're already on DLA (with a finite award), unless you're in one of the trial areas, you won't be getting told to apply for PIP just yet, and you won't have to face the appalling Atos.

If you're on DLA, indefinite award, at this point, nothing has changed, all due to be reassessed from Sept 2015 (but I have had my doubts from the start this would happen, I have long suspected that that would get scrapped, but who knows...?).

If you're applying for the 1st time, or your current DLA award is due to end, or you notify the DWP of a change of circumstances, then you will fall under PIP.

Remember these people are not there to grant you the benefit, but to deny you any chance they can. Assume you're under observation as soon as you approach the building, and definitely as soon as you step inside.

Good luck.

just a quick reply to let you know I had to just renew my dla for the dreaded PIP I was re awarded for a further 2 years so do not be put off okay xx
