I am on day 3 post op, apart from being sore around the cuts etc i have been ok.

Then today i just feel really full off gas and just cant seem to get it out no matter what????

Also is it safe to remove the dressings today??

I was told 7 days for my dressings and got to admit once i took them off the wounds felt a bit nippy. As for the gas pain try some gripe water and keep moving.

movement is the best ever thing to move the gas, the more you walk/move the quicker it will go.

did your providor send you home with spare dressings to change them at this point. they gave me a big bag of them to change myself after a shower at home.

gripe water, nice large swigs or it, also pepermint tea and keep moving gently around, slow walks ect all help you shift the wind.

Its not unusual to feel trapped wind at this stage

Sorry you are uncomfortable em hope it resolves itself The other ladies are giving you good advice about the gripewater and tea, they have been there
Try and move around and hopefully between the different things you will get rid of some of the wind and be feeling better by tomorrow

Love Jay xx

I couldnt get any gripe water today, but found infacol!!!!
This has helped a little.

I also braved it to remove my dressings, and it doesnt look as bad as what i thought it would...
Thanks for all your comments and support, its really nice to have people to talk to that are going through the same thing. xx

Im prob going to be unpopular for this but heres what worked for me.
I AM NOT RECOMMENDING IT AS IT CONTRADICTS SURGEONS RULES...

I accidently drank some sparkling water, Im a former Lighter Life person who used to consume 4-6 litres of sparkling water everyday pre-op. I was devastated when I learned I couldnt have it anymore, anyway - I grabbed a bottle of what I thought was still water from my car and was merrily drinking away - completely forgot I wasnt supposed to have it until the loudest barney gumble burp came from the origins of god knows where.

I realised that I'd been drinking sparkling, naughty naughty - however as the wind was my worst bit about the Op I continued and had a litre over a few hours - hey presto, that wind came up, and up and up.

For me that was it - wind gone. However as I said, im not recommending it, just sharing.

Fizzy drinks should not really be drunk. This is because gas and air cannot easily be expelled and can cause bloating and trapped wind. Fizzy drinks may also cause distension of the stomach wall that may result in band slippage.

I would not do that again at this early stage if I were you....;) Just to be on the safe side.

I have tried one glass of diet coke 6 months out and found it made me feel horrible. Some are ok with it but in the early stages, especially the quantity you did might cause damage.

There are other safer ways to expel gas.

Thanks, though I wasnt looking approval or disapproval I was merely sharing my experience.
I dont plan on doing it again, but am glad I did.

Hopefully further down the line I will be able to go back to my first love of sparkling water - I think I miss it more than solid food.
