Hi I'm a newbie joined last night :) I'm having the bypass week on Monday, done private, was just wondering do you know if can have bloods/ vitamins from my gp?? Iv got lots of questions running throughout my brain :(

Hi Saranne and welcome. I think it depends on the GP - I am v lucky as mine is familiar with the procedure and very supportive of the whole process, including care and maintenance post-op.

Hi thank you cath, oh this is a bit of a worry for me.. He just said he would have to speak with another one of the doctors?? Although the nurse at my gp did my bloods there an then for me and said, shouldn't be a problem next time? X

Problem I got the other doctor at my gp on hols for a week and I'm due to go in 8th October.. Also I was told at my pre op that any vitamins I can get from barrettes?? They only told me about two?? Are they not telling me everything?

Hi there,

I'm a bypasser,2 years now...
I'm lucky as my doc/nurse give me all my meds and do blood tests.
On prescription I have Forceval(these are the best for us)

Hi emma is it right that you have bloods every three months and then once a year?
Nurse at my gp said this won't be a problem, but now I'm worrying about the vitamins?
The dietitian told me 2 start on bassetts chewy active health multivitamin and minerals, and then another after op. Also iv read about injections??

Hi

After my operation I had bloods tested quite regular, now it's not that often.
I have a B12 injection every 3 months, some doctors wont give this routinely.
But I had tireness and muscles aches so they agreed to give it to me.
Your multivitamin you need to get the best you can afford, chewy ones I'm not sure about as I wondered if they are of good strength for bypass patients.
That's why if you can get Forceval get them,
Anything else please ask x

Hi Saranne,I am getting my bypass done privately but in two weeks time,As my doctor referred me to the hospital I am having bypass done and is fully supportive of me.I would hope I shouldn't have a problem getting tests or any meds that I may need from him, although I havent asked him any of these questions yet.So keep posting so I can see how you get on.

Hi, yes I will do, it's always a bit of a worry isn't it, my doctor said the same when I seen her about a month ago fully supportive, but lol I still worry, I have got a 12 month package of care with my surgery at the spire hospital, but I'm one of these I have to make sure :) keep you posted, I go in on the 8th October x

You can buy forceval over the counter at any chemist. I'm sure someone said its about £8. Your GP should prescribe it for you though.

The spire hospital do vitamins, but I'd ask soon as possible about Forceval at your doctors.
The reason the docs won't always prescribe as they are exspensive, but the best for us.
Have you been told you need calcium and lanzaropasole too?
