i finally plucked up the courage to tell my parents that i was considering wls and that ive set the ball rolling. i thought they would be pleased as ive always struggled with my weight and so have they. there was a look of horror on both there faces and my dad told me i was cheating and taking the easy way out
. im feeling rotten now and i dont want to tell any more of my family or friends for fear of being judged.
Charlie,
If you have time have a look at a thread I posted in the general WLS discussion area:
http://www.wlsurgery.com/general-su...t-exercise-fails-bariatric-surgery-works.html
(I am *not* spammer or PR person for Dr Sharma before I get accused again -- in fact I tried to message you privately to avoid posting here on your thread, but I was unable to PM you.)
I told everyone from the start -- friends, family, colleagues at work, my employer (so they would know to expect lots of hospital appointments etc).
Not everyone has fully agreed with my decision (actually my GP's decision -- in Jan of this year I finally found a GP who was more convinced that I should go down this route than I was!) ..... but I have found that I can answer any negative questions from friends and family with the back-up of lots of excellent scientific research !!!
And as for that old favourite: "Oh but you have lost weight before with Weight Watchers / Slimming World / Rosemary Conley / whatever ..... why can't you do that again?"
MY ANSWER: Yes, and the maximum I ever lost thru diet and exercise was 4 stone and I put it all back on again - how many times do you want me to repeat the loop? ;-)
Bariatric surgery gives us the opportunity to finally close the loop, and provides a long term permanent solution to obesity and all the co-morbidities, and enables a post-op patient to live on a restricted calorie intake *without* the constant feeling of hunger and being deprived that is the nagging devil on the shoulder with most other "normal" diet regimes.
