:wave_cry: - Hi all, Just joined your group which looks like an excellent support for each other. i am getting my date on Wednesday for bypass and am a little apprehensive about what life is really like afterwards - what those who have had it say - not the doctors. Any advice/ideas would be much appreciated

Thanks

Hi and welcome!
I'd have a read through the different diary threads like Shell's, Phatgirl's and Mandy's. All are really good insights in what to expect pre and post op.
I was lucky in that I have had a brilliant, smooth ride with no problems at all. Best thing I ever did!!
Good luck with your bypass and let us know your date when you have it x

Hello :welcome2: The weight you lose more than compensates for what you have to go through.
I was bypassed on 17/1/09 and I'm still on liquids but it varies from hospital to hospital as to what you can eat afterwards.
You don't feel hungry but it does get boring and you will have sudden urges to put real food in your mouth.
I've lost 20kg since 3/1/09 and it drops daily, I'm walking daily for exercise, sleep great, feel more energetic and generally very happy.
But you still have to fight this "food is important in my life" syndrome and get yourself to think it ain't important any more, because you will quickly realise that you won't be able to eat it again even when your fully recovered, certainly not in the quantities your used to, and that can get you down a bit sometimes.
Just find a different interest or something else to do when your feeling miserable.
All in all my lifes much better and I don't regret it one bit, just dying to get back on to normal food though, even though it's small amounts. :eatdrink023:

Had my op on 1st September 2008, lost 6 stone so far & am now very positive about things. Please feel free to give me a hoy any time!

Hi and welcome.

I had the same concerns as you pre op, and this place is definitely an invaluable place to come to get 'the real story'. Here you will find peoples journals and menu's, what we can really eat post bypass, feelings, worries, problems, successes. I hope you find asmuch inspiration as i have.

:)

Hi and welcome. Everyone is really friendly and I am sure they will help with any questions you have.

Hi am welcome to mini's i am a 3 week post op bypasser. I see someone has posted links to diaries for you so thats been covered :)

HiYa and welcome to minis,
I have had the gastric bypass and to be honest with you the first few weeks were the hardest for me, as although i wasn't hungry and still not hungry I just wanted to put something in my mouth and its really frustrating and you think what the hell have I done!! But now 8 weeks on and nearly 3 stone lighter, It is the best thing I have ever done, I don't look at food the same and I can eat whatever i want Only in smaller quantities, Its brilliant and you wont regret it!!
I wish you all the very best! x
