November 2016 Surgeries

The first day after i managed about 600 mls but they only turned my drip off that morning so wasnt worried, im aiming for a litre at the minute and feel much more human today x

I'm on about 600 MLS now - maybe a bit more. I'm home now with my feet up and have had lovely cuddles from my little one.

@MrsN thats great your home so quick! I've been told 2 nights stay in hospital.

They said I could stay another night if I wanted to. I was tempted as private room etc but consultant said I was fit for discharge and didn't want the children seeing me in hospital.

I'm feeling much better than I expected though moving around hurts and I have some shoulder gas pain it's not bad at all.

That's good to hear, my 2 fight lots and I do all the running around as my husband doesn't drive so I'm looking forward to a couple of days rest!
I've been told I'll be moving around quite quickly after the op was that the same for you and how did it feel?

Yes-well I tried walking about 4 hrs after I came out of recovery to go to the toilet but my legs were like jelly so had to use a commode. Tried again a few hours later and was fine just dizzy each time but that eased quickly.

Anyone that's been done so far do you have any shoulder tip pain? I've pain in my right shoulder tip. Doc says it due to gas that's pumped during the op. But I've just googled some horror stories.

Hi everyone. Well, where to start?? Not good news. I underwent surgery yesterday but my surgeon advised me shortly after recovery that he had been unable to carry out the procedure as I had a very large hiatus hernia and my stomach was very high up within the thorax area. This rules out any WLS including band and balloon. So, this is where the journey ends for me. I wish you all success with your surgeries and on-going weight losses. This is a great site and your support and advise has been fantastic. Thank you and keep up the good work!
So sorry to hear this :) I too have some hernias and was told I couldn't have a bypass because of this (I had started on a random study where I could have ended up being selected for any one of the three options, so if I had been selected for bypass the same would have happened to me as to you). I only found out I had them a couple of years ago when I had a CT scan as they were causing no problem and had forgotten about them. My NHS surgeon didn't have/hadn't looked at my records, and it was only chance that I remembered them at the last minute when I was going through my considerable surgical history. It does beg the question why scans are not carried out or records checked/questions asked during assessment!!

I see you are private - does that mean you have taken a financial hit as well in all this?

Have read lots about shoulder pain being down to gas. I didn't get it fortunately but it is very common.

@MrsN Good to hear you're doing well and home already. Don't think i'll google the gas pain can do without hearing any horror stories just before my surgery !

@MrsN peppermint tea, id never tried it before my stay there but they said it helped with the gas and its actually quite nice. Mine was also in my shoulders, I think theres still a little there but its manageable now, ive just had 5 hours straight sleep (the most ive had) yay feel spoilt :)

I remember drinking peppermint tea after my c sections and also when I was sterilised it helped and I must remember to go and buy some!
The marvel powder people are talking about is that to add to things instead of a protein powder? My info suggests the sanatogen protein but I got a glimpse of it in boots and it looked quite expensive

Yeah I've had some peppermint. It eased off through the night and I've slept 7.5hrs! Go me!
How are you structuring your intake? Just sipping all day to get mls in?

Yep instead of protein powder as it's much cheaper and does the same job!

@JakkiD are you going to weigh weekly?

Yeah step away from google. Just get moving as soon as you can as that really helps!

The nurse specialist said about the wind from the gas and said to burp away etc! No need for politeness after the surgery, made me chuckle!

I've always used PHD Protein in the past. I have found them to make the nicest flavours, and consistency. Just need to watch the calories on some of the non diet versions. I currently have cherry bakewell, and it's like cake mix. When on the milk diet, I was using protein as well to help keep calories up to a reasonable level.

Yes @MrsN constant sipping, its a full time job, im gonna try weekly weigh ins but i cant lie i did hop on the scales this morning, well stepped lightly, but felt like hopping off when I was 7 pounds lighter than tuesday, top that with 4 hours uninterrupted sleep and (sorry for the overshare) bowel movement, it feels like christmas come early today :0icanfly:
