Parents!! my mum was always for years going on about my weight... but when i look back at out childhood.... never fresh veg, always processed foods, and shepherds pies and cheesy pasta and lots of comfort foods... and always never to leave the table until we had eaten all our dinner... and my sister would never be able to eat her dinner so would put hers on my plate...it becomes the reason in later life you eat everything so not to waste anything x

I come from a family of slim people and we ate loads of fresh veg etc as kids and normal portions. I started to get fat when I started cooking for myself and realised that cream, butter etc makes food taste gorgeous.

my nan bless her who is no longer with us was German and she was a larger lady.. and we in our family inherited her genes... or more like her eating habits... she would come and stay with us every weekend... and if we had chicken and chips for dinner it would be half a chicken and half bag of chips... she was brought up in the war and food was rationed, so therefore she would pump it into us not to waste our food.. so would have to eat it all... and for me as i got into adulthood... i would eat everything on my plate no matter how much was on my plate, so finding that full feeling became hard to find.
I am so glad i have had this operation xx

My mum always cooked from scratch and we have veg with every meal. But I would eat the same as my sister but was twice the size. Its not my mums fault. I've made it worse, but I don't feel it was entirely anyone's fault.

i dont blame my parents or my nan.. as in adult life i was responsible for everything i ate... nobody is to blame but me... but it is hard once a habit of overeating is installed.. its hard to get out of x

I agree, I had the same philosphy with my kids - eat it all up or you'll get nothing else !!
My son who is very active is very slim and fit and eats like a horse, however my daughter struggles like me with her weight :(
Now am trying to redress the balance - we always ate healthy foods meats, veg fruit (obs did have crappy stuff too, no saints in this house) but mainly now I can see was portion size - I came from a big family, 4 brother and me only girl so I would eat just as much as them!! Even now my mum still makes far too much.
My cooking and dishing up followed suit!!

I lived with my grandmother from 12 till 19 and in her house we had breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper!!!! Everyone got fed that walked through the door!

It's such a hard habit to break the same as rewarding with food, I mean hands up who can honestly say they haven't ever rewarded themselves or their kids with food. I know I do. If we all need cheering up we go out for dinner or have a nice cake or something too. I guess it's these things that we need to learn to change for life.

when i was a child i was skinny and not till i had my daughter at 21 did i start to put weight on and then i had a nice little family a sister and neice to feed as well and i think i could still've fed the whole of the army :) the first thing i did on pre op was to buy a small plate a nice one so i was happy to eat off it.... at the moment a tea plate is too much :) but i'm so glad and have now made everyone's portions smaller and it's surprising too how much food is no longer wasted :)
