Pain 6 days post op getting worse

Hi all

Need some experienced voices here to know this is something or nothing? I had razor sharpe pain coming from the area where the stomach is stapled first 2 days. Then it was more a pulling pain on standing and slight twisting which was a different pain. But early hours in bed and today had that razor sharp pain that goes through me without moving from staple area inside. Is this normal? Or re pain getting worse a bad sign. Today my mum had me helping chuck foods out of cupboard. She is made of tough stuff with get on with it approach. The pain happened in night when asleep I don't get as not moving but today with opening and chucking biscuit packets I can understand.

Should I call the hospital or am I being daft? No shoulder pain or temp which is a good sign of no leakage.

Are you taking any ant-acid treatments such as lansaprozole ? I wonder if you are producing acid which is causing pain? I would give your team a ring, better to ask and for them to tell you not to worry, than to ignore it and find that it is something they could help with.
Are you sleeping propped up on pillows/cushions? I found that gravity when laying down pulled things internally! I had to lie at an angle with pillows under my stomach to support me and then had a pillow behind my back to stop me rolling over in my sleep. Could it be that you have moved in your sleep and pulled inside as you moved?

Either way I would give them a ring.

Fingers crossed the pain eases soon.

No one should suffer in pain a little discomfort is for some to be expected but the type of pain your saying I would say not do consider calling your team seeking medical advice as they gave all your details but if it continues to concern you then visit your local drop in clinic or a&e
All the best

Thanks Hannah I am on lansoprazol 30mg fast tab twice a day. I take it 7am when I wake up and wait an hour before I drink. I take it 9pm a good 1.5 hrs after liquids before bed. It has eased off this afternoon the pain thankfully. I do wonder if it is an empty stomach which has then more acid? I am having trouble moving onto yogurts and reddiebrek and still on clear soup with marvel and options or tea. Will try reddiebrek tomorrow. I also forgot to take my buscapan 20mg this morning as don't have a breakfast just tea and water and my stomach swelled and cramped. I notice my stomach cramps with the soup or options so time my bus cap'n around this 'mealtime'. It relieved within 5 minutes of taking it. I am only on that a week. I will ask team can I have it longer. I sleep sitting up but do slide down a bit but remain on my back thankfully. If I moved twisted slightly I would be in discomfort and wake.

Thanks Los in it I will ring team tomorrow. I have no temp vomiting etc so know it's not leakage as surgeon said to look out for. But yes was like first day again and thought pain was going to get less, the dragging discomfort has eased so that helps. I will see how I go tonight and ring tomorrow.

Could be trapped wind. I wasn't allowed ready brek for two weeks. Maybe you should revert to liquids as things may be getting stuck. It will be very sore in there. I also don't think you should be helping clear out cupboards!! Whereas the surgery is done keyhole and therefore it doesn't look much from the outside, it is major surgery inside and the muscles need time to heal and the for the skin to grow over the staples. I would do as others suggested and call your team or your GP.

I have told my mum now I can't do anything. I think she was just trying to keep me busy. Tbh I think it started carrying my son's two plates of food to dining room yesterday tea time. Since resting this afternoon it has eased off. I promise not to lift a finger now until ready :) but yes will speak to nurse specialist tomorrow.

Had pain early hours again. Walked around a bit and had some small burbs. Have not had gas/wind or not noticed it due to stomach being so distended after op. I think it may be wind @SAM55 you might be spot on! Left a message with nurse today just to talk it through but with not doing any house work since it seems to have subsided except in night and took calpol.

Thanks guys found out the pain and it was all the milk and marvel I was really enjoying. I have sort of intolerance to milk which I have found other posters found this common after op for a short while...so miss my options milkshake!

I'm glad you found out the issue. That post op period can be so scary as we adjust to our new stomachs. But I hope you're still resting!

Yep, its hard knowing whats normal and what isn't.

How you were describing the pain sounded like mine when I 'did too much' getting up off the sofa, at around the same stage as you.

Hopefully the intolerance will ease off for you soon x
