Sorry chaps .... Post-op constipation

i dont think prune juice would do any harm, when you think about it, its only fruit juice, and its natural, why not try both, that way you it covered. its horrible when this happens isnt it, i used senna and tried to drink more. hope you get it sorted hun, hugs x

I was 4 days post op before I went hun.x

It was about 4 days post-op before I went too. Prune jiuce won't do any harm. Have you been prescribed Lactulose or anything similar ?

I was 5 days out before Mr Ploppy showed up...LOL :) It's normal, you have less fluids than normal and also the anaesthethic can play havoc with downstairs :)

Imexactly the same had my surgery on Sep 11th and still waiting for the movement.

Prescribed lactolose just trying to get enough fluids in to keep it all moving

Avoid senna, and over the counter laxatives in the first few weeks post op, as these make your bowel/intestines contract and spasm which isn't great after surgery.

Lactulose makes some people dump.

You can get movicol prescribed, and defo start on the benefibre. If you are constipated and need to go but can't, you can use glycerol suppositories which you can buy over the counter.

omg shel, i was told by my dietician that senna was ok to use, as i already had it prescribed by my gp, i thought id ask, and they said it was ok. luckily i only needed to use it once, and havent needed it since. why dont they just tell you to get movicol off the doctor instead of letting you take chances. thanks hun, im glad now i perseverd with drinking more. hugs x

I was struggling and asked my gp last week! He told me two sachets of movicol daily and two senna tablets. Finally they kicked in and it was heaven, yesterday i was going so much i think i lost half a stone (joke) and decided to just have the senna now things are moving unless i feel the need for the movicol....

So much better for not feeling so bloated :)

Rose, the hospital just advised to drink more if you suffer constipation

Well, hey ho, I went. And it hurt like hell :( Will still get some Benefibre though in case it gets bad again.

I am taking senna tablets, with a little dose of lactulose as well, seems to work ok, if not at the first dose, then the next night take a little more xxxx

so im not on my own then kay, isnt it funny how all the pct's have different advice.

My GP gave me senna. I take Benefibre too but I needed some extra help...the senna had worked ok -ish but not great; but I only took one tablet instead of two....until last night!

Today, walking around Ikea........:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I know this is too much information, so sorry but.........

.........NEVER trust a fart! Oh my word, how embarrassing! Be warned guys and gals, one minute I was feeling fine, the next: disaster!

oh no c haris, was it bad hun, i hope not, did you manage to walk away with dignity.
i wonder why some pct's give some stuff like senna, and others not, same as some keep you on liquids for 3 weeks, and others its just a week, weird, cos we all survive dont we, lol
kay iknow what you mean, im just confused all the time, lol
hugs to you both xx

Dawny, I more waddled away with embarrassment!:eek::eek::eek: I just about got away with it as we were about to leave!
It was my GP who gave me the senna, not my hospital. They just said drink more, but that alone hasn't been enough!

phew, so at least you still had your dignity lol. it was my gp who gave me senna, cos im on morphine, and she said i would probably need it, ive had it for a couple of years, but rarely take it. so when i had my op, i asked the dietician if i could still take it, and he said yes no problem. i was lucky and only had to take it the once.
i think if i do take it again though, ill make sure i stay at home the day after lol. hugs x
